sad thing is, I almost ordered their $2000 parts kit with partially built receiver. Guess I should have :(

They are lots of work to build. But in the end you have a very nice MG-42. Their receivers are very nice. You get what you pay for.

Glad to hear that you are ok, hope that wiselite does you right and you get back a great working mg42/m53. If so that would make your deal a great deal. Fresh gun, box, tripod, etc for that price,, great deal. Having that happen, there is a term, sh@t happens.
While gun is at wiselite get the manual's from John and the wiselite one. Read them. Remember folks, who made what. Barrel, camming device, barrel shroud, barrel extension, bolt, most of the stuff that seemed to have a problem was made by the yugo's or German's... That said wiselite made firing pin and set everything up.... This same problem happened during WW2 to the German's also, no that does not make this right, but...
Myself, check, double check, and one more time.... I'm looking forward to finishing one and going to the range and trying one out.

Sorry to see what happen and GLAD that you are ok........

These guns need a one piece foring pin with a stringer return spring. I think the small seperate firing pin is too light to reliably operate correctly. does pirates 1 piece pin work in these guns anyone know? I contacted rtg about his 1 peice firing pins and he said there were two types. A 1" and a smaller one, and if the front pin is 1" then wont work.

Opp's and after the posts that I made about price of barrels.

I believe that most of the wiselite builds (for resale) have US made barrels with German or yugo barrel extensions.

That makes me think. Could the barrel setup be the problem. Might want to think about about using yugo or German made barrel set ups.

Has anyone here had wiselite do their build for them and if so did wiselite change the barrel????

Just some more thoughts on this.

well his issue was definitly a stuck firing pin slamfire. probably not an issue with yugo 8mm hard primers, but still an issue notherless. Simple fix would be a heavier less complicated one piece firing pin with a stronger spring to force it back witha retainer that makes it jamming in bolt head impossible..

I've personally seen two examples of OOB fire with 42s. the barrel door always bulges out (by design I'm convinced) and is easy to whack back with a rubber mallet.
The solution is a two piece firing pin using the standard front pin and a rear pin with a collar (that rides against the back of the striker) forward that will not let the rear pin touch the front pin until the bolt rollers have engaged the barrel extension and LOCKED the bolt.
I've fired many guns with this pin were the round had not fully chambered only to hear a thwack when the hammer drove the striker forward and locked the bolt into the extension but did not fire the round or cause an OOB.
I've posted about this design several times , posted pictures and dimensions. anyone still using something else is a gambler or a fool.

Thanks again guys, for all the great advice.

I just returned from the fun shop, the owner was very concerned that I was ok, and wanted to remedy the situation immediately, rather than wait for wiselite. He gave me a brand new Vector RPD and a couple cases of yugo brass 7.62. I am very happy with that, as I was going to get one anyway.. He is going to deal with the broken M53, and keep me updated.

I think I am going to order a BRP kit and just work on it over the winter. I have built a lot of AK's without a single Hiccup or failure, as well as a couple AR's, so I think that will give me a good start with the MG42 kit. That, and you all seem to be able to help, so if I need to, I will just ask for it

Thanks so much, you guys have been great. I'll post pics of the RPD if anyone wants to see it...

WLA built my M53 using an M53 kit and used Yugo barrel sent directly from CFS. My barrel is definitely Yugo made.

First post here but I have been lurking forever. I picked up a Wiselite about 2 months ago. I had read everything I could on this board about the Wiselite quality issues and had bought with my eyes open. Quality was OK but not great. I am experiencing what seems to be typical issues for the Wiselite like needing excess force to seat the barrel during changeouts. I am most troubled by the potential for OOBs based on a stuck firing pin. Even to my untrained eye the firing pin/spring setup on the Wiselite is less than robust. I've only put about 50rds through my gun. Although the function was flawless, I am bit hesitant to use it heavily based on the issues people are having with the firing pin set-up. A blown-up gun similar to what the OP had is no fun but neither is a wallhanger either.

Drooling Idiot is this modification something you are offering right now? Is modification to the bolt required? I'd be very interested in having something like this done for peace of mind. At a minimum could you repost the plans so the design could be replicated? This would also eliminate dependency on Wiselite replacement parts/springs since nobody really knows where there business model is going right now.

I'd like to post a full review of my M53 in the next few days. In the meantime I have to say this board is a great source of information.

viewtopic.php?f=10&t=5462&hilit=+collar

Try -
4.92" OAL
.44" from front of pin to start of front collar
.98" from rear of pin to start of rear collar

OAL & rear of pin to start of rear collar would need to be double checked to work with your guns configuration but should be a close starting point. That means your hammer pivot pin may not be exactly where i put mine. Rear collar needs an extra .05" more for 8mm than original 2007 design. The stronger recoil was breaking the feedstud until i added the gap. Still kicking around the idea of a rear spring, haven't had the need don't know if it would be an improvement. Front of pin to start of collar is very important. The new pin would need to be made to fit the current size whole in your feedstud.

I don't sell my ideas, I offer them freely so that other guys can take them make poor copies of them and claim the idea as their own when they sell it. [diz]
Light weight and good hardening are important to making a good firing pin, if you can't harden correctly you need to oversize your pin and add extra weight for "ridgidity".

Pic shows pin semi assembled top and rear pin exposed on bottom.
