MG 42 in a film

Post by longhorn109 »

Just caught about 10 mins of "A Fist Full Of Dynamite" and lo and behold an MG42 in action. Some good shots of it as the good guy is using it. The only thing that is nagging at me is that I think they have used it in the wrong time period. I get the impression that this film is based around 1915. Hmmm. No butt on it and it is on the wrong tripod but apart from that great. Maybe we could start ,a none ww2 war type, list of films the MG42 and MG34 have been in.

One of the crappy Death Wish moives, Death Wish III maybe, had a bunch of hooligans messing with the local old people. One of the old guys gets fed up and reaches into his closet, pulls out an mg42 with belt, goes out onto the fire escape and prepares to smoke the offending misguided youths. As if this was not BS enought, the gun jams and he never gets off a shot

The Godless Commies have an MG34 aimed at Mel Gibson in "We Were Soldiers" during the final big battle when Mel and boys charge up the hill. The MG34 rear sight is set on 2000 meters, so the commies need either a class on the operation of the MG34 or a class in range estimation.

That was the smart gun in Aliens, it was also made with bit of a Thompson and a shotgun that the name of escapes me.
I think the MG34 was in Star Wars used by Stormtroopers and the Sand People.

To embarass myself...Death Wish III is one of my favorite in the series!

Guess 1 was the best then III.

overall lession learned after watching all the DW movies is...DO NOT BE CHARLES BRONSON'S FRIEND!! Every friend or person he is nice two gets tortured or killed in some manner.

well, back to the thread...I thought the old man had two of those boxy Brownings. Guess they both have those muffle pipe barrels.

I wasn't a 34/42/53 head when I saw the DWIII movie so I might be mistaken...but one thing for the record...he DID get several shots off and killed/wounded a couple of the thugs...then the thing jammed or maybe he just had TURKISH 8MM AMMO!!!

Saving Pvt Ryan has a great segment with the MG42 in it. Story is that the MG42 in picture is Steve Speilburg's personal gun.

Great segment in Saving Pvt Ryan with the MG42. If I remember correctly, in one shot of the gun, the sights are in the upright position and in the next shot, both front and rear sights are down. Story is that the MG42 used in the picture is Steven Speilburg's personal gun.

Steven Spielbergs personal gun? Ha, I doubt that. First, Spielberg is a big contributor to the anti-gun Democratic Party 2) California, while technically a machine gun state, does not issue state required permits for full auto 3) the movie was filmed in England. If it was his personal gun, he could not take it to England and then bring it back to the US 4) I'd like to see something more than internet urban legend/rumor cocerning this gun 5) I-O or IMA, one of the two, I think, supplied the guns used in SPR and they were dummy guns 6) the sound for the MG42's in SPR were recorded in Georgia from guns owned by a shop in Lawrenceville.
