IMA has demil MG 42 recievers

Sorry, my kit was not directly from apex. I bought it from a forum member, but it could have very well been from apex once upon a time. The cuts look similar to the kits apex carries (well pictures), but really, that could just be a coincidence. By clean, all the parts are intact, no damages, barrel shroud has a nice clean cut, and the barrel bushing area was cut, so that it did not distort the actual shroud itself. Minor surface rust on the bipod, nothing a good blasting and re-park won't fix. Which i plan to do with my parts anyways, so don't matter to me.

If your talking about the cosmoline i experienced, well it took me roughly 2-3 days of cleaning, after having allowed my parts to soak in a bucket of diesel for a week. Mind you, the barrel shroud could not be soaked due to size, so i went through 3 cans of degreaser on it! If yours is as greased up as mine, prepare for about a quarter inch of sludge to clean ! ( And the funny part is, i'm not even joking , have fun )

Think of it this way, the dirtier it is with cosmoline, the cleaner it will look underneath the grime .

This MG42/M53 stuff make me a little ashamed of myself. I'll be sixty years old in a few more years, yet I still look forward to the UPS guy bringing the packages. How silly.

I still hate to see the mail woman bringing in the credit card bill, though.

I know I'm going to end up wishing I'd bought twice as many as I did -- but if I bought twice as many, I'd want to double that, too.

Maybe I can convince Bil to adopt me.

I'm glad to see allot of new interest in the mg42's. These kits are great due to them having the last two inches. Buying one does not guarantee a easier build. You need to have all the receiver pieces with no large gaps (you will other pieces). Trying to make the pieces is next to impossible and DON"T fill the large gaps with welds or junk. There are plenty of receiver pieces out there cheap to match everything up.

The other point is how they are welded together. Use ether MIG or TIG with a internal argon purge. Your weld should look the same on the inside as it does on the outside with no impurities. If you don't follow these steps you are setting yourself up for allot of aggravation and possible a big paperweight. There are lots of use who have built a few of these. If you need help just ask. Ether we can help or know somebody that can.

I don't want to discourage anybody from trying to build one. Just don't try to cut corners to save a few bucks.

Received mine a few minutes ago, and I'm quite pleased. As nice as the basic $100 pieces are, I wish I'd simply bought them. I ordered hand-picked on all. The $100 pieces look much better than the pictures indicate. There is none of the handwritten look. The letters are machine-made. I don't know what others may look like, of course.

The cuts are typical torch-cut, but none of those I received are monkey-grade, thank goodness. The rivets are still in place, as are the remnant rails and recoups.

All but one is cut in FRONT of the front rail rivet. The $100 pieces were cut just BEHIND the front rivet, with the indentation still visible. I have several M53 shrouds with the front rivet indentation still visible, so it should be doable.

All in all, well worth it. I would make any orders at this point by phone, and order from which ever group they have the most of -- with hand pick. Logic would indicate that there just have to be some really nasty ones in the bunch, so pull from those with the most pieces to pull from, in my opinion.

I might post pics if I can get time once they are cleaned up a bit.

Mine came in last week , they were not hand select but looked just like the picts posted on IMA. I had ordered manufacture dated sets to match my parts kit and couldn't be happier. Some of the earler years have already sold out

received my $100 sn# only set the other day. Marked faintly with a manf. code of SWJ and has the little birdie on the top right of the rear section, no date that i can decipher. No complaints here. Only that I need a "camming section" to fill the front gap. Anyone have one that they can afford to let go for a price? Thanks for any help.

hello . board members i havent been on in awhile, i also received my $100 serial number only receiver section, and i couldnt be happier, i also have an apex parts kit without bipod on the way with booster bushing repair, anyone ordered the recent apex kits ,know if they have the camming section the pics referance they do, but it also shows a bipod, anyone i plan to be more apart of the board from now on, and look forward to getting started on my build,,

Nice to meet you, and good luck on getting the camming section on your kit . If you go back a page, i can probably imagine your cuts to be similar to mine, give or take, but you could get lucky, you did manage to get ahold of apex. Maybe she liked your voice, and decided to give you a nice kit .

I am also looking for that 1-2 inch section. BRP has the middle receiver section with all the parts ($225), however they do not have any that are bare.

Best bet, unless you can find one off one of the guys here, go for a Wiselite repair section stamping. APEX carries them, or maybe you can deal directly with wiselite?

I received my MG42 demilled receiver today.I payed for a serial number only,and got one with a bnz code.It's very nice and will make a great semi reweld.It's well worth more than the $122.00 I payed for it.I thought deals like this were long gone.

I ordered twelve of them first thing last Monday morning. It is finally shipping today. They told me they were overwhelmed by the number of orders for the receivers, also they had a miss count on some of them. Unfortunately some of you might get a phone call that they are out of the receivers they said they had for you. Out of the twelve I ordered I am olng getting ten.

This topic is way out of my legue...but the only way to learn is to ask!

I have seen alot of cut receivers and have seen some sites showing how they weld them together and even fill in large gaps...but isn't there a big risk of it not being able to handle the pressures?

My way of thinking is a traditional rifle that isn't stamped is made out of one solid piece of metal.

Stamped guns are just pressed out pieces of metal...but both rifles are all from the same matter and tested (I hope!) for their strength.

So you guys are able to just weld and add sections and be able to comfortably shoot with it?

I imagine you sand down the welds so it doesn't look like the Frankenstein monster...but are you able to make it look like one piece? Or can you see that there was a join, etc?

my hats off you to fellas for being able to do that stuff.

I'd buy a receiver since they are cheap and maybe one day try...but I really don't know what to look for!
