haven't seen the video, but the cocking slide would return forward on its own if the bolt was not caught by the trigger lever. Did the guy have the trigger pulled when he let the handle go? Was it FA or was it a semi-auto?

Mauser,

you need to learn how to google better.

http://www.pmulcahy.com/machineguns/swi ... neguns.htm

in the video, you can hear that it's not shooting 8mm or nato 7.62. sounds like a smaller round. swiss 7.5. although, not much smaller. It just sounds differant than the 42. Maybe also because of the slower fire rate. or is could be that the video is shot from behind and its distorted somewhat.

It's known as the M 51 or on tanks I guess the MG83.

another video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRMesd1PSKg

it really looks like it may fire from the closed bolt position. At the end, when he clears the weapon, and lets go of the charging handle it flys forward just like on my SA as if the bolt is pulling it forward again. hmmm. but that can't be. there must be some spring pulling it forward like that.
