Finished MG47

Please see the attached photos of the finished semi- auto only MG47. The barrel, trunion, bolt and modified bolt carrier are Romy ak, the top cover is MG3. the feed tray, receiver, operating handle, barrel extension, gripstick, buttstock, grips & forearm are scratch built. The rear sight is K98, the belt pouch is SAW 249, the FCG is US made FAL, the barrel attachment is L1A1 pined in place. Oh yea, the return spring is a shortened M60. The bi-pod is anybodies guess. (Shoots 7.62x39. The rounds are dummies). There are other posts on this site that show more detail of building it. Search for posts from SHARPSSHOOTER5090 if you are interested.

Congratulations. I can't imagine the time and effort this took. It looks very cool.

How much does it weigh?

You must have tons of miscellaneous parts laying around to try out. Did you try to use something from every gun out there. I think you missed the Shwartzlose and the Lewis gun. Maybe you can make an adpater for the Lewis drum to complete the set. Just kidding.

I think this is a great acheivement that required a lot of understanding, patience and above all - persistence.

Since it's obviously a girls gun, where do I sign up to order on for my Mom. I need to cover Mother's Day and this is the perfect answer. It's one present I am sure she doesn't have yet.

It looks like a Romanian Kalashnikov flipped upside down, the front sight mounted 180° and a FAL flashhider.

The feed mechanism would be operated from a knob welded to the bottom of the carrier but I can't envision how you access the bolt and firing pin from the top side.

That is a beautiful adaptation.

I have posted these before but for those how can't find them hidden in my other posts, here is a couple of pictures of the internial parts.
I will post a close up of the modified bolt carrier, hammer/grip stick assy and operating handle so you can see how the mismatch of part work together. The whole thing field strips with out need for a screw driver although there is a threaded thumb screw that connects the operating handle slide to the bolt carrier. I need to replace it with a quick release pin.

Bil, my next project is to assemble my MG53 kit with a scratch built receiver, finish my 30mm half scale civil war Whitworth breach loading black powder cannon. Then, see if I can make a belt feed adaption for my FAL. Wish I could find another Centry 80% FAL receiver casting.

Here is some more pictures of my MG47-Ak47/FAL/M60/k98/MG3/L1A1/what ever else I could jam into it/???? The holes in the bolt carrier are because we have a bad metal eating termite problem here. (Really lighting holes to compensate for the extra force the bolt carrier has to overcome to operate the feed cam.)

The return spring had to be moved from it's original location that was inline with the gas pistion to a position inline with the bolt to allow the hammer to strike the firing pin up from the bottom of the gun. The return spring rides on a guide attached to the bolt carrier extension and extends into the butt stock. The bolt carrier extension is machined out in the middle for the hammer to be able to hit the firing pin. Very similar to what has to be done to a MG42/53 to convert it to SA. I also fitted a light spring to the firing pin as a precausion againt a slam fire.

Actually, the bi-pod is some extendable leg foriegn import I bought at a gun show. Except for the extendable legs it does look like a RPK bi-pod. The clip that holds the legs together I made so they would be clamped tight aginst the barrel when folded up.

Woah! I am a little late into this orgy of admiration ha ha. Great looking gun! I remember when you started and I was thinking of how ugly it would look; but it is much better looking then I could imagine! Any plans for a barrel shroud? Just because it is this big fat beast, and I think that the thin barrel kinda does not match....

And yeah, I have that bipod mounted on my AK too. One of the legs keeps extending; I need to get stronger springs for it.... great bipod though; if any of you guys see one, then get it! Great universal bipod for only like $20.

My bi-pod does the same thing too. I need to put a stronger spring in the latch like you say. The nice thing about this bi-pod is that it is all steel and not aluminum. It is fairly heavily built and except for the latch springs, a good bi-pod for the money. (And it looks military)
