Just for information, Weaponeers has a potential group buy on MG42 barrels, ammo cans, repro AA sights, and repro slings. You may want to check this out.
These parts will come from Interordnance and I saw these parts at the Charlotte gun show last weekend and wanted to let you know the condition.....
Barrels - The 8mm barrels are really nice. I saw two they had for sale and they were marked "cyq" on one and the other was "AR". Their normal price is $80 and well worth that.... they look like new.
Ammo cans - The $20 cans were not dented, but the paint was really scratched up. There were no big dents in the body, a few of the leather pieces on the handles were missing, but most were there. For a Range Can, they would be great when repainted. Save your nice ones for display.
AA Sight - These are NICE reproductions. IO said they are made on the original tooling?????, but they are really close to the originals. They work great on the gun!
Slings - They look very good, they even are dirty as an original would be, LOL. Actually they are made in India and the webbing is dirty from the workers hands that made them. Not a bad buy at $39, but hopefully the Group Buy will bring this down. Oh yea, the metal ends look great!
IO also has some of the WWII MG42 Locking Pieces assembled to .308 Steyr barrels for the MG1 & MG3. I have a couple of these and they are nice too. I think the price is near $70 for these. Check out their website for the exact price. I have used these barrrels with my .308 conversion kit with my MG42 to have an MG1 set-up, and they shoot nice.
Just a heads-up review of what I saw!

Cans, carriers and drums
Due to my absence AK47Dennis took a look at all of my purchases for me.(so just in case he holds a secret auction with a lot of mg stuff, let me know) Concerning Ammo Cans...the ones from IMA were all German and of good condition. The Allegheny double latch cans were Yugoslavian manufacture. My barrel carriers from Ohio Ordnance were all German with good tan and grey paint still showing under the slime green. The Double snail drum carrier and drums from IMA came in with the carrier in grey and the two drums in slime green. All german though. What I have found with IMA is that you tend to get better stuff when you actually apply a hand pick and make specifications...You never know what you'll get if not...it never seems to fail that I don't get exactly what I Want if I don't.

I have a quick correction. The Allegheny Arsenal Patronenkasten 41 fur MG (double latch cans) are wartime. At first the codes did not show well. It was a coincidensce actually. One of the codes on the can I thought read as "bro 43", which did not show up in the code list. My wife (when she looked at them for me) said the 3 looked like an 8. Today on eBay someone listed a barrel carrier stamped brc 43. This stamp also looked very close to an 8 rather than 3, and the c looked like an o...so naturally my wife read it wrong . The second can is marked bdk 44. Even though it does not show up on the code lists, it is still wartime. The lists tend to fiocus on companies that produce wartime material. On a few occasions I have brought new codes to light that the list bearers didn't realize produced ordnance items, but were on their master list.
It's better to be silent and considered a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.

IO MG 42 barrels
I got one of the new 8mm barrels at Knob Creek. It took the 'no-go' gauge easily, causing some doubt about using it. I took it to my range last Sunday, and it functioned perfectly. Apparently these guns (all guns?????) work ok while accepting 'no go' gauge????
There are no bad guns!!!!!!!!!
