Harbor Freight has the Tig welder on sale that Pirate used in his tutorial on the welded up of the MG42.
This unit is normally $260 and is currently $199 as a un- advertised store special thru Jan. 31st. Gages/ regulator are available there for $30. I believe they even have small empty gas bottles ....see your local gas supplier for the argon gas or a bigger bottle.

Miller makes a 120vac welder that is similar in appearance to the HF, it works really well, but is not cheap. Probably with diligence it could be found used at reasonable prices.
Miller Maxstar 150 is one machine, a quick search found the kit for around $1400.00 new, used would be anyones guess. I just thought, that if your in an apartment, do you have an electric range? This could be a power source for a 240volt welder.
Another thing, if the breaker panel is in the apartment, you could install a 240vac outlet near the panel. An electrician friend could make it look like it grew there, and just leave it when you move.
