MG34 Retro-Fit Bi-pod and Mid mount adaptor

Post by pryotex »

I passed this by Salt6,

I am making Adaptor mounts to use a MG42/53 Bi-Pod on a MG34. There is a Mount only (uses a MG42/53 Bi-Pod) or a Bi-Pod with the mount installed.

I needed one for my MG34 and did not want to spend the $250 on one so this is what I came up with and I have Extras.

Thanks

Tony

Nice! Did you have to make the part that goes on the 34? The 1/2 round that slides on the jacket. Thanks. ---bil
BTW-although this is Pyrotex,s first post,he is well known around the gun building sites as a stand-up guy,for those that don't know him.

First they were taking mg34 bi-pods apart to make mg42 bi-pods. Now we make a special adaptor to fit mg42/53 bi-pods to mg34's. Interesting.

Welcome to this site pryotex. Lots of nice folks here also.
Hope that you get a lot of interest in the adaptor's.

Yes, I made the 1/2 section that mounts to the barrel shroud. I was going to "CUT" my MG42 mount off (the stud) but then saw the German markings so I made up the new section to not have to cut an original.
Here is a Pic of the Adapter before machining the Lock slot and the flats on the Post.

Nice-that would be good to use to make one of those German armorer-built tree clamps found on the eastern front, and in Finland! :D ---bil

I am also making ones that have a larger mount to "Center mount" it on a tri-pod.

That 1/2 ring mount is a great base piece to create variants from. Something to attach easily to the MG3 AA tripod would be great to have or even a generic part that can be further adapted. I've seen some MG3 vehicle mounts that might be a ble to use one some how to mount the 34.

How many aare you making?

Yep, I did the same thing awhile back. I copied one that Uli Wigand showed me. He let me borrow one and I took some very quick dimensions with a dial caliper and a bunch of pictures, then went back home and eye-balled one. It's all simple turnings and a couple mill cuts. He was selling them for awhile, I don't think he made more than a few. This one was my test article, exactly as he did it, then I realized the threaded joint wasn't needed and for the next couple I made I made up a small positioning fixture and used a proper TIG joint instead of the stick welder. This one was never used so it looks clean still.

Doing it this way, with the '42 bi-pod adapter tube there, also allows the MG34 to then fit right onto the std MG42/M53 un-modified bi-pod or std MG3 AA tri-pod

Tony's looks cleaner, and is really for a different purpose in my mind, this one is not trying to replicate the original look, it's just a "universal adapter" kind of thing and it can get you a '34 onto a lot of optional mounts quickly. And, no, not trying to step on Tony's toes as I am not selling any. Just some pictures.
