Lafette carrying sttraps
I checked around website and could not find
a satisfactory answer.
It seems the original WWII lafette carrying straps are nowhere to be found
or probably priced thru roof.
Does anyone make repro Lafette carrying straps
with correct style WWII hardware.
I've seen some repros around but the hardware looks incorrect.

Most of us have has to make repro straps. Real ones are too pricey and to delicate to use. The repro straps and how to make them are HERE:

I picked some up from IMA awhile back that were nice, but don't know if they have any left? Chris.

Those are Yugo post war. They are very different from the German WWII type.ChrisPCook wrote:I picked some up from IMA awhile back that were nice, but don't know if they have any left? Chris.

Hi DARIVS .
Followed your link but it tells you how to make a correct style repro.
Is there anyone out there actually making them to sell to others?

I recently bought a set from Frank Barone. If you've never heard of him, I'll just say that he makes & repairs all kinds of German WWII leather gear. The steel hardware is not 100% correct, but it is dang close.
Here is a link to my thread - lots of pics - and contact info for Mr. Barone.

Hope that helps ya!

I'm just waiting to hear back from Frank Barone. He's going to make a MG42 split sling for me now that I found the correct ww2 style hardware.CRUSADER wrote:cipo, cipollinaj wrote:Hi DARIVS .

I wonder what he charges.
Re: Lafette carrying sttraps
12th - do me a favor? Post the info from him when you get it. A while back I managed to scrounge up the hardware for two slings & it's time that I sent the stuff to Frank & had the slings made up. I've been putting the sling(s) off so long that I now have a bunch of other stuff that I need to send him ... two rucks that need repairs ... K98k pouches that need repair ... I need one or two new Gunners Pouches ... a canteen strap ... it just never ends ...

That's the beauty of re-enacting.CRUSADER wrote: it just never ends ...
And yes, I will post the info when I get it.
Re: Lafette carrying sttraps
He's charging $60.00 to do the Mg-42 split sling and of course, I provide the hardware. Plus another $8.00 for shipping. I'm going to get it all sent off this week and hopefully, I get it back faster than I got my Grigsby's order.CRUSADER wrote:12th - do me a favor? Post the info from him when you get it. Re: Lafette carrying sttraps
Thanks Guys,
I contacted Frank and he's making me a set.
I'm getting mine slightly darkened to match the aged look of my lafette.
TC- I saw in your link that you questioned why he doesnt
blue the hardware.
I'm not sure what he did in past but my hardware will come blued.

Re: Lafette carrying sttraps
Frank's work is amazing. He has done a number of projects for me in the past. He can replicate nearly anything (I usually send him an original item to duplicate) or perform repairs on original gear.
Didn't know he was making repro Lafette slings!

I received the straps.
They are really nice...Frank does great work.
All metal is blued.
I antiqued them and now they're ready to go.
Thanks for all,
John

Re: Lafette carrying sttraps
Since we cannot find exact copies of the hardware cheap, those reshaped modern snap clips will have to do. Those are the same as the ones I use. The leather on yours looks older because of the crease lines though. Nice touch. Very nice straps at a great price. You did well.

Re: Lafette carrying sttraps
I wish someone would make a copy of the original snap clips.
I think there would be a market for it.
As for the straps, I toned down the leather and the stitching
with acrylic paints ( brown and black) diluted with water.
After a few passes anbd touchups, the color soaked in and it matched very closely to my
original carrying sling.
