Best price on MG42 AA tripod?
Who has the best deal on MG42 AA tripods? No problem with a used one, but I seem to remember some one had them for $49 or so several years ago, but they seem to be bringing a bit more than that now. Any leads for the deal on these?
I believe that you may be thinking of the "SportsmanGuide" at $79 (?) plus shipping.....but I may be wrong.
Those were new, un-issued "Post-War" MG3 AA-tripods...which can be converted to look almost the same as a WWII German AA-Tripod.

How well do 42's shoot off of them?
I had one with my M1919A4 and it jumped around like a jackrabbit, especially when using a crank. It looks like the 42, using the stock, would be more stable. Adding weights to the legs helped.
I need to get another AA pod. I sold my old one when I got my feldlafette. I'm going to make a new one into more of a "universal" tripod by replacing the swivel pin with a removable pin and making various mounts that slide into the swivel part.
I'll put the original on for my SA42, a different one for my 1919, one for my twin-AK's and so on.

Kirk, I heard that (like you have observed) that these tripods are not easy to shoot off of. But one thing that I have observed is that many of the shooters neglect to use the hooks on the legs to reenforce the tripod, and to weigh it down with sand bags, bricks, whatever. The Laffette tripod also jumps around sometimes if not weighed down.
IMA has a bulky 34 ground mount. Looks like it weighs a bunch. Used in the AA role if I remember correct.

Best Price for MG3/42 Tripod
Northridge International has good price on post war MG3/42 tripods (bought one for $80.00 cash ).
Get one from them at a Gun show; they usually will work with you and they do attend most of the major shows in CA, NV, and AZ.
They will be in Phoenix this coming weekend.

I use one with my 1919 all the time. Hang a full ammo can off the hook in the middle. works pretty good.Cpt_Kirks wrote:How well do 42's shoot off of them?
