Sarco "LAFETTE GROUND TRIPOD"
Re: Sarco "LAFETTE GROUND TRIPOD"
There are mandrels that will work for this, sort of like the ones used for exhaust work but smaller.Or find a piece of heavy-duty pipe with an ID that matches the OD of the legs.Use a large piece as a base, and a narrower one to push with.Go slowly, and remember that it will have a bit of spring-back when you release.I think Harbor Freight or Eastwoods sells the mandrells.Another place might be a sheet-metal shop if you are friendly with someone there, they have lots of neat equipment.Good luck, and don't overdo it! ---bil

Re: Sarco "LAFETTE GROUND TRIPOD"
I would see if someone could find the guy that bought the 80 MG34 lafettes and 2 crates of parts from OOW. IM sure theres some good legs to be had in that pile.
Re: Sarco "LAFETTE GROUND TRIPOD"
I remember seeing that lot for sale on Ohio Ord's site. I wonder who picked those up? Anyone want to fess up?
Re: Sarco "LAFETTE GROUND TRIPOD"
Jbaum knows, but he aint telling.[it is a surprise-we each get one for our birthday! Don't tell anyone! ] I think we will be seeing those parts for sale soon, maybe after sorting and selecting.Hopefully. ---bil

Re: Sarco "LAFETTE GROUND TRIPOD"
Ok, dumb question. Are these still available at Sarco? I couldn't find mention of them on the website. Next question is are they "passable" for ww2 reenacting?
thanks,

Re: Sarco "LAFETTE GROUND TRIPOD"
no idea if still availlable, but they are the one you want for re-enacting.In the first page of the thread it says 'not the mg3 mount' that one is good for shooting, not for historic accuracy. The pic of the yugo mount -that is what you want, inentical to WWII German except for the range plate and markings.Occasionally someone will luck out and get a German marked one,all slobbered with yugo paint. If you get one for re-enacting,you will need to strip and paint it correctly. ---bil

Hey Mike,
Yes, they are still available as of yesterday at least. Here's a link to the ad in pdf format. See page 4 for the tripods. http://www.sarcoinc.com/1-20-10%201-5.pdf

Re: Sarco "LAFETTE GROUND TRIPOD"
Just got mine, but have not done anything with it.
Paint is pretty dinged up, but everything is there, including the bolt box. Good deal
Make sure you get the one WITH the sight block.

Thanks for the correct link to the tripod. I just ordered one. We'll see what it looks like when it arrives. What has been the average delivery times? I'm in southern IL.

I got mine in about a week and a half but I'm way over on the west coast (Washington State).

Re: Sarco "LAFETTE GROUND TRIPOD"
I found a large box waiting for me on my back steps when I got home from work today. A week and a half is about right and I snail mailed my order {to South Carolina}. I probably should have bought a lottery ticket today because mine is a 1941 fsu marked. The front leg storage catch is broken so I guess I get to do more welding. Now if I can find a sight for it ...
Re: Sarco "LAFETTE GROUND TRIPOD"
Nice score Pathfinder but I hate to tell you.....I think Sarco shipped my pod to you on accident. I'm sure you have no problem shipping it to it's rightful owner at your expense of course. BTW.... please use UPS, I think the FedEx driver stomps on my sprinkler heads for fun.
Re: Sarco "LAFETTE GROUND TRIPOD"
My Yugo rebuild I dont think they removed any german markings except the back sled plate and the range plate. There's markings all over it.
Unless you really have that urge to find an original painted WW2 MG42 lafette, these are just as good as "original" repainted whatever german ones.

Re: Sarco "LAFETTE GROUND TRIPOD"
Awesome....I must have received the only full on Yugo lafette Sarco had. I'm currently waiting to hear back from their customer service to see if they can help me out with the bent legs and locks.
Re: Sarco "LAFETTE GROUND TRIPOD"
As I was packing the jeep for the ww2 reeenactment this weekend in Indianapolis, the UPS truck pulled up & dropped off my tripod tonight! I pulled it out of the box, set it up on the sidewalk to make sure it worked, then thru it in the jeep too.
The good: Doesn't appear to have ever been re-painted (lots of paint skinned off from use). Everything appears to be in good condition & present. Not too much cosmolene on it either. I'll clean on it during down times this weekend at the event to see what markings are on it.
The bad: it was packed in 5 cubic feet of packing peanuts.....these things should be illegal!
I am well pleased. I'll have the dummy 42 on it for a display (w/ fake barb wire & fake sandbags).

Re: Sarco "LAFETTE GROUND TRIPOD"
Got mine yesterday. It's in decent shape but I can't find any German marks. There is a 1 on the back and 1 on one of the legs but thats about it. The part on the top where the Germans would have marked it looks a little uneven so I think it might be German and they removed the marks.
Re: Sarco "LAFETTE GROUND TRIPOD"
Mikesal-just leave it in the back of the jeep a while-those peanuts will be gone in a few days! I think they evaporate or something! ---bil PS-the lafette I got a few years ago was advertised as German, but no markings,oh,well.I got a nice firing control unit from Bergflak, all German, and switched.Close enough!

Re: Sarco "LAFETTE GROUND TRIPOD"
I heard back from Sarco and they've been really good helping me out with my bent up tripod. They are even reimbursing my shipping costs for returning it. But after getting a lemon the first time, I'm kind of hesitant to roll the dice again and have them ship out another.
