The tool is for measuring dimensions of the extractor. I got mine for 88 euros (about $110) from Germany's ebay. One will go for a nutty price, the next one is cheap. You never know.

GUT = good, Aussch. = reject

It looks similiar to a tool used to measure firing pin protrusion on Mosin Nagant rifles.

I just purchased one of these myself and went to a German collector friend of mine who warned me that 99% of these gages are fake the waffenamt is not correct......

I would say you understate! IMHO 99.98% of the gauges and tools sold on ebay are repros! First of all, consider the fact that a tool/gauge like this was made for the people on the factory floor. How many of these should by all rights survive ww2?
Whenever the seller of items like these offer them with "free shipping" or has a "Buy it now" price available it is a 100% tell-tale sign that he is offering a copy (and is aware of it himself!)
How many "Mkb42" gauges have been seen lately on ebay!? And the MG34 headspace gauge cartridge!? All with a "buy it now" option! Time to be more critical.....
Mit freundlichen Grüße

Another way to tell is to look at the waffenamt with a magnifying glass. These were originally stamped in by a piece of hardened steel. If there are lots of small depressions, then a vibrating engraver was used. If you need a guage, then these that I have seen are at least accurate in dimensions. If you want to buy something to help the Polish and Czech people who make these, then most of the sales on ebay will help them a lot.

If you want to buy an original, you'll be looking a long time to find one.

Yes I understand your points, but still they are fakes and not worth the steel they are made out of.

I would not trust them for checking anything-because I would be willing to guess there were probably no original blueprints used so the gage tolerances were probably unknown and guessed at. With an extractor gage it is nothing too bad, but with a headspace gage and the cost that these guns are it would be unwise to attempt to use an unknown quality gage of sketchy mfr. for anything other than a static display, which is what I hope all of the fakes are purchased for.
