WWII Lafette Help

Post by M1 Tanker »

Guys, I got a nice one from AA, but can't figure out how to get it completely apart. I have the top removed from the bottom, that was pretty straight forward. I cant' figure out how to remove the T&E from the upper though, can anyone provide some guidence? It looks like a rivet needs to be removed, but before I did it I wanted to ask.

I'm gonna blast this thing and repaint, but if I can't get the damn T&E off I'm stuck.

lafette mount

The top of the T&E mechanizm.is held on by a soft steel rivit .Use a small diameter punch to drive them to the center of the mount.Becareful in doing this,as you will reuse them when reasembling the mount. When reasembling, hold the rivit in place with some tipe of clamp.Place the washer over it and then flair the end of the rivit with a large punch.Bud

Chris, I am also considering sandblasting my Lafette and would like to know how you are refinishing it. I got mine from IMA. It's complete and fully functional but a bit beat up. I don't know what color is authentic, I'm thinking tan, or what type of paint to use? Also some of the painted parts need bluing. The canvas pads need to be redone in leather, etc. Let us know your progress from time to time and any tips you may have. Thanks.
