IS THIS A KRIEGSMARINE MG.34 ????????

Post by Damien Horn »

I HAVE RECENTLY COME ACROSS A MG.34 WITH WHAT APPEARS TO BE A KRIEGSMARINE NORTH SEE FLEET STAMPED ONE. I AM ONLY A BEGINNER IN THE 34 WORLD BY COMPARISON TO SOME OF YOU GUY'S AND WOULD LIKE THE BENEFIT OF YOUR KNOWLEDGE. IT IS A 1938 BSW AS FAR AS I CAN REMEMBER, BUT THE STAMP ON THE SIDE IS THE INTERESTING ONE. IT IS 100% GENUINE, SO LET ME KNOW IF I AM BARKING UP THE WRONG TREE AND JUST BEING PLAIN STUPID AND WISHFUL.
THANKS,
DAMIEN.

Stamp

Damien,

It sure looks like one to me. I was heavy into Lugers several years ago until I went over to the "Dark Side" with the Belt Fed guns, but the Kreigsmarine stamped Lugers were fairly rare and discussed often. The Stamp on the MG34 definetly is from the "Nordsee Flotte".

You can probably find some good information about this Fleet from history books and that will provide details about the MG34. You have found a real JEWEL!

Issued by the north supply depot property number alright. That makes it a navy gun.

So how rare is it?

Hi, thanks to Abwehr and John for confirming what I was thinking but not believing. So how rare is it, someone out there must know?
Damien.

Damien,

I don't know how rare the gun is, but naval Lugers are on the rare side. I would estimate the MG34 to be very rare! That is a great find!

on page 51 in the book,'The MP38,40,40/1 and 41 Submachinegun', of the propaganda series, Vol II, has a photo of an MP-38 with the same,"Nnr__", and identifies the SMG as being from the Northern Fleet....What a great find !....bob h(jw) :D :D :D
Beautiful women are like well built machineguns: Some should just be looked at, and left alone, while others were built to get hot.

Wow! That is pretty cool! Where did you obtain the kit if you don't mind me asking? Not like I'd get lucky enough to find one though.... Chris. :|

Hope not to upset you navy Collectors !!

At least twenty years ago there were a bunch of Navy marked lugers imported into the USA by a very Prominent midwest collector-- All were mismatched --unfortunately I have seen several of these in the last few years -- all refinished and re-matched One thing I know for sure that most 1935-36 Navy lugers were not marked nicely-- they were hand stamped with the ID numbers--
