I have started the new tutorial for doing the receiver reweld with my weld jig.
Here is the link: http://www.projectguns.com/mg342.html
I am redoing all the photos and need to get a couple more parts to finish the receiver so it will take a couple of weeks to complete.
As soon as it is done I will also do one for the bolt and grip. TNW sells a kit with all the parts you need to do the bolt and grip and the trip lever. it comes with drawings and instructions. It is $180.00, a real bargain. the trip lever is not in the photo.

Re: MG34 Sem Auto Tutorial
I added to the tutorial today.
Also I corrected the welding rod type, it is E308 not E301
As soon as I finish the welding part I will see what I can do about tutorials for the trigger and bolt.

I just asked my welder about this and he says 308 is stainless. That strikes me as odd, as why would one want to use stainless on a MG34 semi build? AFAIK it won't match when finished because of the different metal, and I'm thinking "stainless"?
Of course, I know nothing so any insight would be great.

Re: MG34 Sem Auto Tutorial
It helps to think of steels in terms of their content rather than whether they're classed as stainless or not. 308L rod is commonly used to repair iron parts; it has very low carbon content so there is less martensite formed in the heat affected zone. The MG34 receiver is ductile iron rather than steel and has a higher carbon content so using mild steel filler would make the weld harder to work, brittle and prone to cracking.
You're right though, it may be harder to get a consistent finish.
