Will a 34 fit on a MG42 Anti-Aircraft Tripod?

I want to get some kind of mount for my new (will get it in few weeks) S.A. Mg34. it would be great if I could put in the bed of my Pick up truck.

Call Inter-Ordnance.They had MG42AA tripods with MG34 adapters on sale for $129 last month.

If you are talking those Post-War MG3 Tripods being sold for about $80........."NO"........."unless you change the mounting adaptor to the 1/2-moon style that is used to mount the MG34.

Best thing going price-wise now is:

1: Buy MG3/MG42 Post-War AA-Tripod.

2: Purchase an "aftermarket" MG34 Tripod-Head of the WWII German style.

3: If you have welding and lathe abilities.......change the MG3 Tripod-Head/Stem to accept the WWII German style MG34 Tripod-Head.

4: Contact "Ryan Schnee" from this Board and see what he will charge you to "restore" it/repaint it to look like a WWII German MG34 AA-Tripod.......Ryan does really good work.

PS: Those InterOrd MG34 AA-Tripods do not have the correct style WWII German MG34 Mounting-Head......it's a "looks" thing.

I got NEW MG42 aa tripod with the io adapter works well for the 34

I thought he was looking for a generic AA tripod to puit on his truck.I have an original Dreyfuss MG34 tripod and you are correct about the Yoke assembly and connector are unique to the WW2 model.There used to be a guy who made replicated WW2 German motorcycle sidecar parts who had the Yoke and connector assembly but he hasn't restocked his supplies in a couple of years.Noridge used to sell the complete MG34 Yoke assembly for $250,but that was five years ago.The Inter-Ordnance is a cheap alternative.

If you have a correct example, you can cut down the shaft on the AA tripod and recut the locking groove. This will allow the attachment of the WWII mounting bracket (Aufsatz) that can use either a 34 or 42 attachment piece (Lager 34 or 42). Blitzbikes currently sells them for about $130-$140. They come complete with the 34 atachment piece. If you want to get the piece for the 42 you will have to buy one of those Yugo brackets and use the 42 piece off of it. Pics below.

Thanks Reichpapers.I couldn't remember the name of the outfit,but that's the place I was referring to.It's good he has the Yoke and connector back in stock.And like Blanksguy said,you have to remove the stem and turn it down on a lathe.I used my original Dreyfuss MG34 AA tripod as a reference.Measure the Blitzbike replica Yoke's internal diameter with a dial caliper and cut down the shaft to that size.Try and weld the holes shut on the postwar MG42 shaft to make it look like the original before you turn it down.I made a replica Dreifuss MG34 AA tripod that came out pretty nice and I received positive feedback when I sold it on eBay.

Aha, your the one with the orig Dreibein and mount. I forgot. Did you ever remove that ghastly paint? I've been dieing to get pictures of all the markings on the tripod and mount. BTW, I Finally got a LAfette 34...woohoo.

No,it still looks the same.One of these days I'll spend the time like AK47 Dennis and Ryan Schnee did on there Lafette's and repaint my MG34 AA tripod.I think the manufacturer's code was "cox" that was stamped at the stem base.I'll have to pull the tripod down from the attic and repost pictures of it.

One of the pictures shows the manufacturer's code of " cox " after I scratched the postwar paint off the stem base
Another shows the stem you have to machine down from a postwar MG42 AA tripod and machine a groove at the top of the stem to lock the Yoke assembly in place.
