"dot 1940"

Hi All-

I recently found an mg34 barrel shroud marked "dot 1940". It has a low 3 digit serial number with no suffix. I didnt realize that dot was even making 34's that early. Is this piece uncommon or am i just thinking wishfully? Does anyone know about how many they made in 1940?

Thanks!

Quite uncommon as many people don't believe DOT's were made before either 41 or 42

I'm a lowly k98 collector, but this certainly looks legit to me. Would anyone dispute?

Thanks, it's mine. I thought it might stir up a bit more discussion seeing as their very existence is disputed. Seems to be no interest, maybe I'll post more pictures if there is

Wow, that's a first for me.

I have not heard of a dot 1940, until now.

Excellent stuff.

Jonathan.

Thats new to me. I have only seen one gun with a dot 1940 marking before and that is a cutaway that resides in the Czech army museum in Prague. There was probably a very small number of guns made that year. Nice!

At a gunshow near Pittsburgh, a guy walked by with what appeared to be an FG42 first model... It was stamped FG41 on the receiver. Wasn't for sale, and nobody I've ever talked to wanted to believe me, but that's what it was. There are no absolute rules. None.

Brno was making spares in 1940. I have a couple of dot 1940 barrels. I don't know about whole guns.
