Installing trigger return spring

I took my grip stick apart to cosmoline it. Of course, upon reassembly it gave me trouble. How does one compress the spring/piston such that it can be slid back into the grip stick? I can't get my finger or a tool in that will keep it compressed. I was thinking about a dental rubber band and then cut the band. But there has to be a better way.
Thanks!

About 1/3 of the way down John offers a manual of the trigger system. Could help. Check it out.

Yes, I thought I had that manual but when I grabbed it, it was the MG34 Lafette manual! Dammit! Then I went through my Baum manuals and the rest are all friggin' MG42!

John's MG34 Trigger manual is one of the new items that he has done. Good Luck.

The trigger wasn't meant to be disassembled in the field, so reassembly isn't shown in any of the manuals I have. The trigger manual shows how it works, it doesn't show how to assemble it.
But for the record, I think you need more manuals anyway.
