Another MG3 tripod question

while I know that the MG3 tripod isn't made for the MG34 it is easily adapted to use with one, I got mine at a tenth the price of the original so I'd like to retrofit it to work, I've got a machinist working on a new latch piece to replace the front mount. My question is about the actual springs on the tripod, if you shoot an MG34 on it you'll see that the ROF lowers noticeably, I know I need to tune the springs but I wanted some input before I do so. So the question is do I cut or shim the springs? The MG3's rof is high enough that the springs dont seem to have time to reset after every shot whereas the when I shoot my MG34 off this tripod the rof lowers and it's recoiling fully back and forth on the springs instead of holding them in the rearward position like an MG3 would.

Any thoughts?

Saw a mg34 lafette at Knob Creek for $3,000. just to give you a price point. I should add it was nice.

Shim, or cut.

Shim first, you can always take the shims out if that doesn't help. Cut first, and if it gets worse, you're screwed. :)
