2 Different Style MG34 Bolts

Can anyone tell me the reason, functional differences and year of incorporation between the attached two MG34 bolts? Is there a problem with either design? The aft end of one is squared off while the other has a metal tab extending out the back. The internal parts within the aftmost portion of the bolt differ also. Thanks for any clarifications.

Just two different models of firing pin retainers. Mainly to simplify production.

Top - Early style firing pin retainer
Bottom - Late style firing pin retainer

Late style is easier to use and manufacturer
