That is rust in the photos...from long storage...I had to remove about 5 lbs of cosmoline from them and while they were sitting in the gasoline, they started to rust. Anything is possible regarding repros...I brought this up with MG Dave at Sarco who has been a friend of mine for many years...he gave me his word that these came in a large batch (two tractor trailer trucks full) of militaria from an eastern european country. He also said: " Why would I sell only ten of them (that was all they had) if I wanted to do that"
"When I sell repro mg parts, I advertise them as such and would not risk my reputation for $2,000"
"If you want a refund, I will be happy to give it to you...these are not repros"
"How would 10 repro pieces get in with all those WW2 gun parts that have been in storage for all these years?"
"since I just saw one of these sell for almost $1,000 on an auction site... if I was out to cheat you, wouldn't I have charged more than $200 each?"

I also realized that if Sarco was going to sell repro parts, wouldn't they offer the panzer antiaircraft clamp on ? That is much harder to locate and much easier to sell. Since SArco has several hundred original mg34 front sight assemblies, wouldn't it be easier to select a nicely marked front sight and put it on the piece to make it more attractive to the buyers ? Dave has never lied to me before and I have spent in excess of $50,000 with them in the last 30 years...he called me to tell me that he just got in a bunch of mg34 stuff and listed what he had...he also sold me 4 very early BSW trigger frames (stripped) the type that housed the "regler" adjustable rate of fire mechanism and a super milled top cover marked with the weimar eagle and only charged $150 for the milled piece (from the same load of stuff). It may be hard to believe these days, but MG Dave is an honorable guy and has never, ever lied to me about anything. I am totally satisfied that these are legit...the repros from France have both the "cnx" maker code and the waffenamt with number...mine from sarco have either the three letter code or the waffenamt...not both. I don't think that SArco could buy ten of the repros for less than $200 each...I am sure that each takes several hours of cnc time and that is very espensive. The repros are all milled from a block of steel...these were forged (in a mold) and then milled. I have compared mine to close up pics of the repros supplied by a collector that got his from the man in France...they are certainly not the same.
Another member of this forum also bought four and sold 2 to collectors...everyone seems satisfied. Mine don't take up much space and hardly eat anything at all...I think I will keep them !

....and Amen to that! Well said Artie, and I wholeheartedly agree whit you! Why they both lack the front sight?
My guess is that the Sarco ones at one stage came with the parts installed but were "canibalized" for the standard parts, as they themselves couldn't be used as-is.
The French copies do not sport the front sight as it is a standard part of low value and the cost of making them (good enough) will not be worth the added value of the fake clamp. I guess they will sell well enough as it is!

I'm one of the folks that bought one from the other forum member -at an auction price, so I have no desire to see these turn out to be fakes. I never meant to suggest Sarco would sell fakes just that maybe they found their way into the lot of stuff they bought. I believe someone mentioned that a large number of fake AA sights where sold to a dealer in Poland and aged.

I just received mine yesterday and although I believe it is the real deal I have to say the fake looks pretty close. I think if the fake was given a mild bead blast to flatten the sharp corners then blued/aged it would be hard to tell. This one also has brown color that doesn't seem to be rust. It is an overall bronze color under neat the bluing. It's strange. Perhaps it is a reaction between bluing and metal. There is the letter "c" on the inside and what looks to be a greek letter near one of hinges. Anyway, I just thought it was odd that none had the front sight posts and thought I would bring it up.

I have found the front sights to be fairly fragile, especially when compared to this mount. It would make sense to have the sights in a flat box on a shelf ,where these are more rugged and could be piled in a warehouse. That could explane how they got seperated,it they were ever together at all! ---bil

bought by another shop WW2soldiers (member of this forum)
and re sale here http://egun.de/market/item.php?id=2606979

they wrote:"this piece was find in France from 25 year ago "

they used the picture of good WWII mount seen on one topic on this forum to modify how they stamped them.
