I saw that and wondered as well. Clearly, it won't work in the MG34.

The bevel pinion is cut for a keyway, so it transmitted torque to another beveled gear, at 90 degrees maybe. The "teeth" are worn out. Somebody just tapped it onto the tapered MG34 barrel and buried it a long time ago. Interesting.....Phil
