Gurttrommel Single Drum Question
Gurttrommel Single Drum Question
Hello and thanks for taking time to read this. First, I am new to the field of MG34's and 42's, so if the following question and possible other fundamentals can be answered by a book that is a good primer, please direct me to that source so that I can acquire it. To this posts question, will a a Gurttrommel single drum fit any MG34 top cover, or, does it require a special cover?
thanks!
thanks!
Re: Gurttrommel Single Drum Question
It doesn't fit the topcover, it fits the feed tray. Some will work, some won't. It has to be a feed tray that has the ears with the rails for the drum. The same drums fit the 34 and 42 feed trays.
You can find the book "MG34-MG42 The universal machinegun" by Folke Myrvang. Its probably the best and most comprehensive book on the guns out there.
Hope that helps

Re: Gurttrommel Single Drum Question
The single drum will fit any MG42 with the proper feed tray.
The MG34 has two top covers, one of which works only with the double drum. The other top cover requires belts, which, with the proper feed tray with ears, can feed from the single drum. The feed tray without the drum-mounting ears can feed by a belt only. With the special feed tray, it can also be fed from the right by belts.

A photo for helping understand.
Reversebale feedtray on the left and a left-feed only feedtray on the right. The one on the right has the ears that you fit the GT to.

Re: Gurttrommel Single Drum Question
You need a special topcover for fitting the PT-34, the doppeldrum.
PT-34 topcover on top and regular beltfeed topcover underneat.
Not to good photos, but they to the job.
