pic request... '34 vs 42 barrel carriers...

Post by mggunner34 »

ok so I aquired a bunch of barrels and dont have any carriers to put them in, I have seen that there are '34 carriers and carriers for both the '42 and 34, and one for just the '42. can someone post some pics of the inside of these? I'm interested in possibly tacking an insert on a new much cheaper '42 carrier so it will carrier the '34 barrel instead... is this a viable option? I've got 10 barrels with no carriers so I'd save a considerable amount if I can retrofit the new '42 carriers.

yes thanks for letting me know i can search i appreciate it, perhaps some useful info would be less a waste of your time.
But I did do that and there isn't any info on how big either is compared to the other, im looking for a side by side of the newer mg3 carrier vs the Laufschützer 34, I dont need any info on the double carrier (Laufbehalter 34 - 42)
mainly can the is one longer than the other or smaller in diameter.

I'm not sure on this as my carriers are packed away at this second, but. I think that I would worry more about the size and shape of the end of the barrels and if a mg42 barrel extension (wrong word but) will fit in the end of the mg34 area.

ok, so its seems basically the cheaper '42 carriers are too short to fit the longer mg34 barrel even if the inside was reworked to accommodate it. thats what I was looking for, thanks alot for the pictures of the carriers and the barrels that was exactly what I was searching for. :photos:

I assume you need something period style for the general correct look.

If not, and you just wanted to carry a barrel without denting it up, I'd just glue together something out of irrigation pvc tubing with a threaded cap. It can be thrown then into the back of a pickup and still arrive safe. This seems pretty easy for a 34 barrel.

yea, looks like ill end up finding original carriers for them at least the ones I keep, I only have one Laufschuetzer 43 at the moment so I'll probably use a big padded rifle case to carry to rest to test fire.

Can anyone attest to the quality of Sarco's barrel carriers? I'm thinking of getting a few of the double carriers they have listed for $150 (i think) but would like to know what others have thought of the general quality as I know those carriers have bakelite parts.

stegger thanks a lot for all the pics I appreciate it! :photos:

I assume since you post pics of things you have dug up that its legal to do, one thing I wonder, what do you do with certain parts that are illegal to have in your country (if there is anything) or are they just considered scrap because of rust etc?

I know here in the US if we did have battlefields to dig I'm sure that some agency would crack down on certain parts or the like, or have it just be illegal to do.

Hi mggunner
If about legality of digging - You can't explore, look in places such as mounds, graves, historical places, etc. Digging on WW II battle sites is not prohibited if it is not private property , In such a case to be agreed with the owner.
If about legality to possess excavated military objects , it depends on the condition of the concrete objekt . If they are still in relatively good condition , better drill, weld where necessary, and there will be no problems with law .
I hope I have answered your questions :)

If so -
Happy New Year to all of you and all of us !
Long live to MG-34 and MG-42 !

Time for one more, early carrier, MG34 barrels only, notice the rounded shape of the holders which are of bakelite. also the external shape on the ends is rounded, it doesn't carry the "humps" like the previous carrier I posted to accommodate the MG42 barrel. Chris....
