Just thought I would post a hello since I just registered here.
I'm picking up a 34 kit and an 80% receiver tonight so I might be asking a few questions from time to time.
There's lots of good info here, really glad I found the site!

I'm in no hurry and if I can get access to one of the semi receivers or a set of plans I can make it happen.
The biggest problem is getting it done correctly and within the rules. My biggest problem right now is getting plans for the "semi only" work that needs to be done.

Welcome! There is lots of debate about how a PhilaOrd 80% can be made into a semi receiver. I just talked with a friend who has been a Tool and Die maker at GM for over twenty years; he says that with the right machinery the PhilaOrd can be converted without a broaching machine (of course if you have one, then it makes things easier). Uhhhh no it won't work.
The width of the channel is 1.7" the width of the slot in the top of the receiver is .550 and in the feed tray area .948. So the largest cutter you can get in there is a .945 cutter. even if you had only a .250 shank on the tool it would only reach .349 into the channel. The channel is .560 deep when measured from the edge of the .550 slot.
This would allow you to rough it out but you would still have another .211 to go.
If these were easy to convert these they would be flying off the shelf.

Mine is going to be EDM'ed next week, maybe I'll be able to post a pic or two when it's done.
I don't know how many ways there are to remove the material from the inside of the receiver as I'm not, nor do I claim to be a machinist. I'm sure that some ingenious individuals can attack this problem in a variety of different ways and achieve the results needed.
