MG34 Barrel - Loose Collar - No Collar Piin

Post by hatrick »

I have an original MG34 barrel that has a ever so slightly loose locking collar. It is so slight that it is something you feel more than you can see when you twist the collar while holding the barrel.

I was wondering how to go about tightening it. I didn't want to just bang on the collar pin with a punch as it may crack or break the locking pin and make it worse. Would it be better to leave it alone?? Does a slightly loose collar have any impact on the functioning of the gun??

I also have an original 2-piece blank firing barrel that has no pin holding the collar in place. Is this normal and will it be a problem if I go to use the barrel???

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Eric

Howdy! As far as the live barrel goes sounds like it had lots of use or banged hard. Should not affect operation.
The blank barrels that I have seen usually dont have a pin to hold the locking collar. Thay are peened into the small dentent on the locking collar to hold them in place.
NOTE-I am no expert! Maybee on of our salty veterans here might have a diiferent opinion?
