CHANGING BARRELS ON A TNW-34

This afternoon I took out my TNW MG-34 and attempted to change barrels on it.I pulled back the charging handle,and set it on safe.I then pushed in the receiver catch,but the receiver group would not easily rotate,only with assistance would it rotate and open.
Is this normal because of the way it is rebuilt? I lined up the interupted threads a number of ways,and when the receiver would line up with the barrel jacket part,it would only rotate so far easily,and then it would stick, possibly the rim of the receiver would jam against the barrel jacket groove.
Would it be unsafe to grind down the edge of the receiver rim,so that it would rotate easily?

thats a common prob. almost all barrel jackets have to be fitted for each gun clearance are very tight,after you open and close it a number of times it will losen up

This MAY work for you - Get some jewelers rouge and coat the mating surfaces then open and close it a number of times to polish the surfaces.
This should clear up the problem and give you very smooth operation.

Remember to clean off all of the rouge when finished.

The only thing is it usually takes a few taps from a hammer to get it open.Would the jeweler's rouge work, or would a file be better?

Mark,

I would try the rouge first - You'll be amazed at how little metal needs to be removed to get smooth opening and closing.
This will lap your parts together for a nice close smooth fit.
