MG34 in .308

Post by Pirate »

Has anyone seen an mg34 in .308? I saw some .308 bbls for sale in shotgun news. it would be nice to have a .308 conversion so I could shoot nc ammo in my tnw gun.

Israelis converted them to .308. Considering the ease of converting the 42 to .308, I wouldn't think it would be too hard to do for the 34.

I think Ryan has one in .308. He posted pictures of the conversion. I believe it was the barrel, feedtray and the foreward piece in the top cover that depresses(or guides) the round into the chamber. It was a bit longer.

The Norwegins converted many MG34s to 7.62x51mmNATO/.308.

We fire Blanks from these all of the time in 7.62x51mmNATO/.308........and as listed in the Blank-Adapting tutorial/thread.......the only parts that we change are the feed-tray and barrel (for a 2-pcs. Blank-Firing Barrel)....as the case-heads are the same so same bolts.

For firing live ammo in .308.....I believe that the only new parts would be:

1: Feed-Tray. (IE: Look at my photos....a "dedicated" .308 length feed-tray with a spacer and feed-guide welded onto it).

2: Barrel-Assembly

3: Booster-Cup/"Nozzle"

You will be able to use the same belts in most guns.

This should take you to the picture of Ryan's .308 34.
Whether this is part of the Norweigian modifcation or his I do not know.
