My TNW MG34 has no serial number on the receiver

Post by hatrick »

I bought a TNW MG34 about a year ago from a friend of mine and it has no serial number on the receiver. Is this normal??

Thanks,
Eric

IT HAS TO BE NUMBERED SOMEWHERE TO BE LEGAL, CALL tnw and ask them this is important

Are you concerned about the number on the receiver itself or on the barrel shroud?

I am concerned that there is no serial number on the TNW manufactured receiver. There is the original serial number on the barrel shroud.

Is the TNW logo still on the receiver?

Yes, it has the TNW logo on the side of the receiver and semi auto MG34 - Veronia, OR 8mm and 2 WaA marks. Just no serial number.

hatrick,
....question would be "did your friend buy a completed semi-only MG34 from TNW?(which would be a firearm).....or did they buy the 80% finished/do-it-yourself kit? (which may not be a firearm)". I ask this because TNW does sell a kit.....and there is someone auctioning off three of these on GunBroker.Com.

You will have to ask TNW, and your friend as I am un-sure if their (TNW) 80% finished/do-it-yourself receiver comes with a serial number.........maybe one of the members on this forum ("That has bought one of TNW's 80% receiver/do-it-yourself kits") can look and let us know what they see.

Be safe, RichardS.

What’s even more intriguing is what serial # did your dealer use to log it in and what serial number is on your paper work...it will have to match.

ak47dennis,

hatrick says "a TNW MG34 that he bought from a friend"......I don't believe that a "Dealer" would have been involved unless his "friend" was an FFL Dealer, AND that the TNW MG34 was a completed weapon when his friend received it. Did hatrick's friend buy an 80% TNW "build-it-yourself" semi-only receiver kit without a serial-number ?? ....and then complete the weapon himself ?? (I can only guess that TNW's 80% receiver-kits only have their "logo" cast on them and no serial-number?).

Just questions at this point.

I don't think TNW has ever sold an 80% or incomplete receivers. The receivers they sell are 100% receivers and the serial number is stamped in the same area as on an original receiver. If you look at this photo from TNW's web site, you can just make out the serial numbers stamped at the rear of the receivers.

762x51,

The photo that you posted shows serial-numbers at the rear of "completed" receivers/ guns...........if you go over to TNW's web-page and "click-on" their semi-only receiver-kits, they are selling a "do-it-yourself" semi-only kit that does not have the stud at the front for the Barrel-Jacket mounting.......and I do not see a serial-number at the top-rear of TNW's photo from their web-page. Maybe it was a "special-order".......or maybe that area was ground-off.......or maybe TNW did in fact forget to serial-number it?

Not to cause any problems here (as TNW's web-site photo of their semi-only MG34 receiver-kit doesn't show a serial-number)....my suggestion goes back to what I originally posted, that "hatrick" contact TNW directly and ask those questions..........then he can post some answers for us here for all to see.....and maybe some photos of those "offending-areas" that were/were-not marked on his TNW receiver? How does that sound?

Be safe, RichardS.

Opss didn’t read the portion about buying it from friend  . I was told (by tnw) that they do not offer "80%" receivers, aprox. Year and half ago I contacted them about purchasing their receiver kit. But delivery was quoted to me at 3-4 months!! So I asked about "80% rec/kit" with the broaching being done that’s when they told be completed receivers only thru your FFL.

If you go over to "GunBroker.Com"....and search MG34.....three (3) of these MG34 80% receivers will come up......the photo does not show a serial-number....but it does show what looks like TNW's "logo" on the side of the receiver.

Any word from "hatrick" on the "calls" to TNW ?.......or photos from him of the "questionable" areas of that semi-only MG34 receiver ?

Banksguy - You need to relook at the 2nd photo on Gunbroker - All 3 auctions are using the same photos

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIt ... m=40276662

The serial number is there - in about the same place as it is on an original receiver.
In the photos I can see the serial is x0x1 but the cameras flash washed out the remaining numbers.

Orin

What I find kind humorous is the opening bid is $2500  !!!! You can get it direct from TNW (give or take 3-4 months) for aprox. $800 less.

How much work is involved in a "do it yourself" TNW kit? I have a good parts set already, is it worth the extra money (and wait) to have them build it?
