Ok this makes two questions in a row. But I have had them for years and am very pleased to have found this website!

I have a BSW kit that came with a machined top cover instead of the stamped style. Were these early top covers? Do the stamped ones work better? Or did they start stamping them because they were cheaper to produce? I bet the stamed is lighter!

It is an amazing machined part!

welcome ,is the machined top cover you got set up for the double drum mag?

No, its the standard style cover. Just machined from one large piece of steel. It is solid on top with no entry.

I will take a photo of it, and post it.

You are the luckiest MG34 parts kit owner!You hit the jackpot!Do you realize how lucky you are to have a machined top cover.The machined top cover was only used on the very earliest MG34's.I've been watching eBay and Shotgun News,etc. ads for years and I've never seen anyone selling a machined top cover except for the saddle drum style.Hold on to that baby,she is rare!

Here is the top cover and the buttstock, with some kind of metal caps on the edges to protect it. They are on the top and bottom of the stock. I think the buttstock is bakelight?

The milled top covers were made early and then discontinued for ease of production.

Odd Gibbs Shooter, Where did you buy your parts kit? You seem to have gotten a very early kit. Is it dated BSW 1937? You are lucky to have recieved two of the most sought after components for mg34 collectors. The Machined top Cover and a bakelite buttstock with metal reinforcing tips.
