Italian vehicle mount (I think)

Check this out - looks like it is simply missing the buttstock:

There is a link for the MG 42/59 crew served weapon but I can't follow it for some reason.

In that configuration, it's called the MG3A1. They also made a remote controlled mount so the shooter could remain in the armored vehicle while shooting.

I'm not aware of the MG42/MG3 being used IN a tank. ON a tank, yes, but not IN one.
There's usually a rubber cup/bumper that goes on the buffer in this application, too.

MG3 is used as the coaxial MG IN the Leopard2 turret, also ON the loader's hatch.

As the 42,I have seen many pick of it mounted on the lafette with buttstock removed,not sure if they used any sort of rubber bumper. ---bil

That is a traditional part of his units uniform.It is a reminder from their WWII days,when it looks like the war is going the wrong way,just 'fly away' !
