Possible, but not probable, these came from Portugal.

Portugese MG42's

Post by narviklied »

Dennis, I collect Rhodesian Bush War items and have a lot of friends in Zim' a couple are ex BSAP British South African Police. One was an Ordnance expert in 1979. He said the Portugese MG42's were not sold to Pork during WWII like the MG13's ans MG34's Those were sold because the germans needed Chromium and Manganese from Angola for machine tool manufacturing. The MG42's were bought after the war, surplus from European countries that were left with them after the war. They could be from a host of countries. The Czech's and French refurb'd and sold arms to everyone after the war. My unit's three LIG18 7.5cm Infantry Guns were refurb'd by Czech after the war, even have bullet holes welded up! Two of them were stamped with a czech lion proof and sold to Guatamala. Pork was a dirt poor country and their african wars in Moz' and Angola caused them to go low budget. They even bought MG151 20mm guns for their choppers. Later when the west figured out the Russians wanted Angola, the US gave them the money to buy H&K MG21's ans G-3's. Sooooooo my bet is Czech reworked. But just a guess. I have a cool Pork MG42 pic I'll email to you. Also a couple MG13 pic's. I don't know how to post. Not literate on this site yet.
