my build project complete

Post by haseo8up »

Well, its finally done. The kit is a yugo m-53 from I/O. The things I learned from doing this as my first build....great site for information, tig weld, saving a lot of money, and much much more. Pirate did the bolt and trigger mods. They fit great and had absolutly no problems with them fitting and working. Thanks once again pirate!! Took it out to the range yesterday and today and this is what I have found out. Fired 100 8mm romanian through it without a problem, top cover came open a few times but that is about it. Also fired about 20 rounds in it with .308 using two types of ammo, wolf and reloads. Reloads worked without a problem, good primer strikes and cycle. Wolf was not that great, had split case necks on all rounds fired except one and no cycles. I had to load one by one with .308, need a dedicated top for it. Overall, works great right now but still need some testing time. Once I feel it is good, I will bead blast and finish in black oxide. It is awesome to shoot. Now I have to get a tripod.

congratulations please keep posting updates to your range report. we all would like to know how things are going and what ammo works and doesn't.

Its amazing anything works right around here with a bunch of

Congragulations!! you did a most excellent job, gun looks really great!! You are now the envy of all the guys at the range. now be prepared to spend all your extra $$$ for ammo as it is a hungry gun and if you are like me just can't stop shooting it.

Pirate, yes I just used the Caswell kit. Turned out better than I thought it would. Only a few small pieces that did not blacken, they turned out a dark greyish color. I think it was not enough prep on those pieces. Overall it blackend quite superbly. I have to get another Caswell kit to finish some small stuff. I accidently dropped a brush with penetrate sealer into my solution and messed it up.

After blasting I boil the parts in water then put them in the solution hot, then after they are done I boill them again. this seems to make everything come out jet black.

yeah going from hot to hot does good for parking i bought some of brownells stuff and parked some pieces for the 1919 and they came out a nice dark gray color i really like there solution its fast only about 3 minutes a piece and give s a nice color. I hade some residue on the booster so it kinda got splotchy but thought that batch of solution was done for NOPE parked my bolt afterwards and came out great!

It looks beautiful!

A word of advice......don't forget and grip the trigger guard with your left hand. The ejected empty round will raise a nice sore on your top finger.

It happened to me once. It was the only time I ever managed to get off a one round burst from my MG-42.

Mine was a interordance kit. Bought the kit complete last year before ATF law came into effect and before the supplies dried up.
