It amazes me that still more than 70 years later the MG42 design lives on and thrives, still being used by major military powers.

Testament to smart engineering and design.
It is interesting to me that new break throughs in light-weight metals and CNC work haven't yielded anything that appears as rugged or practical, quite yet.
There have been a few longer serving firearms in history - the Brown Bess certainly comes to mind.

Just got back from a year in Bagram and didn't ever see this much green in the Stan!
We had Bundeswehr, Jordanian, and Brits with us. Never saw an MG3. Did find a SG43 though.
Good to be back. Could not access website while overseas.

Welcome Back to Fla. Thanks for being there. Hope that all went well.
On the mg3 I just have to think about how many are still made every year. I know that several countries were making them over the years. Question is, who is still making them and how many a year.

Pakistan was still making the MG3 a few years ago. I sold manuals to the Marines so they could teach the Iraqis how to use it.

A solid weapons platform for sure, but still not as beautiful as the MG08 or especially the LMG08
It says a lot for the design, the desert is a very hostile environment on equipment.
