DONT TREAD ON ME
Stamp
Yep, the stamp on the top cover is definetly Yugoslavian! This was Tito's Commie Government stamp that does have a date which I think is 1943 or 1944. The stamp is really post war.
I have stated this before, but I still have a difficult time believing Yugoslavia manufactured complete MG42s! With the surplus parts that Post War Germany used for the MG1/2/3, there must have been a "ton" of surplus parts available shortly after the war. Another point is the the difficulty in manufacturing the receiver, I just don't think the Yugoslavians made them 100% new.
I certainly could be wrong, but don't feel like it.

i just got my kit. all i can say is wow the parts are in excellent cond. The barrel is pristine no pitting sharp rifling and a nice shiny bore except for the last 3-4" however i expect that to clean up.
topcovers dans(century) on the left direct from century on the right
parts
allmost excellent bore
The barrel shroud section is also in very good cond. (dan's 3 cut included for refrence)

ok I've gone over this before so go look on my build http://www.panzer46.net/mg42board/viewtopic.php?t=335
with what you got you will need to either get on dans waiting list for a rec. OR find a nose section with a good bearing, buy a $100 brp rear semi rec. and $25 worth of scrap from brp to get a good trunion/cam section, then you still need a lower buffer cam and buffer latch and post, the nose and buffer cams are hard to find as I got the last ones dan had and noone alse has em, all that shroud section is realy good for is strip off parts and give away/sell or collect more scrap for a dummie

yes these parts would help..........
however I still feel that the barrel support will be easy to replicate (if you have a lathe and shaper or keyway broach) the buffer cams look even easier to fabricate just some flat stock in a press the hardest part will be finding a good trunion/cam section. allough I think I can fabricate one of those also.
Is this the easiest way no definitely not. is it cost effective? well that depends on if you have the skills and tools and free time. I allready have the tools to fabricate all of the missing parts. For me it's not about the destination (finishing the gun) it's all about the journey (building it). I enjoy the fabrication time. i building as much as shooting the finished gun. And hell even if it dosent work i planned on a oxy/propane gun in the future anyway.

Really? I must have been lucky the one I received is in exc cond. the only issue i had The anti bounce assembly seems too long. it keeps pressure on the wedge all the time. It's about 1/4" longer than the other one i have. i had to pry the rollers back w/ a screwdriver to remove the carrier.panaceabeachbum wrote:Your first pics posted look the same as all the ones I have recieved fro century also, my pics are in a similar thread. I wondered what the bayonet was for.
That's a YUGO M53 anti-bounce assembly and it's designed to keep pressure on the wedge at all times. That design more closely follows the German wartime experimental anti-bounce assembly than the post-war German design.none123 wrote:
