Re: MG42 in action
Bill, how do you come up with these ? ? You must sit all day stewing them over in your head. No wonder the blank stare lol

Actually, the stuff flies around in there pretty fast-just a little gets out. You should see the stuff thats still in there!
I try not to let that stuff out, it gets me in trouble!

Where is your #2? Why aren't your belts in assault drums? Specially in the woods, the belts don't like twigs. Are you Rambo ? If it is a defensive position, the Lafette, #2, #3, and a bunch of cans of ammo would be present.

To answer your questions:oakrodent wrote:Where is your #2? Why aren't your belts in assault drums? (E)Specially in the woods, the belts don't like twigs. Are you Rambo ? If it is a defensive position, the Lafette, #2, #3, and a bunch of cans of ammo would be present.
1) The number two is to my left. He's hard to see but he's there.
2) Why aren't my belts in assault drums? There's not much evidence of 12th SS guys using the drums in combat. Maybe you'd like to show me some photos that show them with the drum attached. As an aside, do you think a gun with a 1200 round per minute cyclic rate would really have a 50 round drum in combat? I could be wrong, you tell me.
3) No, I am not Rambo. I think he used an M-60 MG.
4) Again, I wasn't aware that EVERY time an MG-42 was used "defensively" a Lafette was used. There are ammo cans present although not in the photo.
Thanks for your input and I'm still waiting to see your re-enacting photos.
Cheers!

There are not too many photo's of the unit I'm in taken by us. We are all young and fit and on the run constantly. I find them on line time to time. Here are some U-Tube vid's of me. Mostly boring stuff. The shorter one was a couple of vid's spliced together. Also the gun was being a little of a bugger. I should have put a smaller BFA in it for the cold weather so the first 20 rnds were a little rough until she warmed up. Then I can dump a mag in about 15 to 20 sec.
Long one. Mostly of the guy recording my butt. :

Short one. The fake gun battle is the last 3/4 of it... What am I saying, it's all fake

I know there are lots of other ones out there. My #2 carries everything he is supposed to carry, including the spare barrel carrier. Everyone carries ammo. When I do MG-34 or the MG-42 I use assault drums. I have 6 carriers. Everyone gets the fun of lugging them around! We are also setting up to do a heavy mg squad. With a Breda. Should be cool. We also did the MG-42 with the Lafette. My #3 was bitching every time we moved. lol lost a couple cans of ammo. A guy forgot where he set them !

What unit are you in again? Maybe we'll run into each other at an event and then you can show me how it's done.oakrodent wrote:There are not too many photo's of the unit I'm in taken by us. Also, were you still planning on coming out to South Dakota and going pheasant hunting?
Last thought, if you're saying I'm NOT YOUNG and fit, that's interesting. I think you're older than me, and while YES, I'm older than the average 12th. SS Soldat was, I still think I'm more than passable.
Thank you again.
