German WW2 markings on the MG42
Re: German WW2 markings on the MG42
The receiver taper in front of the site is diferant on the 53 also.Looking from the top,the taper on the 53 ends about 2' further to the rear,on the right side.It is very noticable side-by-side. ---bil

go for it.longhorn109 wrote: Maybe we could do a section in the stickies for markings. A receiver section for all MG42s and variants, a top cover section, a grip section and a miscellaneous for all the other bits (sights, bolts etc).
I'd guess you are looking at 40+ hrs of work just to get it up to passing. believe me i had no idea how much time goes into building a stickie before i tried.

This is a good thread
I like Longhorn's stickie idea on this subject.

yep i think so !!!!
Re: German WW2 markings on the MG42
Longhorn109's '42 looks fine to me, I have owned several in the past and have noticed variations in the crimping around the nose, I think it justs depends on who made it and when.
Re: German WW2 markings on the MG42
Hello All,
For what it's worth, I have 2 AR (Mauser) receivers and both are marked bpr and pj just behind the rear site like longhorns. I also have 3 DFB(Gustloff-Werke) complete receivers and they either have arz or rea makers sub contractor marks near the rear serial marking. Most CRA's I have seen aslo have the bpr pj marking behind the rear sight. As well, on page 133 of Folke Myrvang's book he states that the ARs and CRAs(maget) he had examined had bpr made receivers and the DFB examined receivers arz or rea made ones. Obergefreiter if your receivers are not rewelds then this suggests the vaiours assemblers used what ever sub-contracters that supplied them. Very interesting!

yep.... but don't you find theses markings strange ???
Re: German WW2 markings on the MG42
Maget (cra) and Gustloff (dfb) never made Mg with 5 numbers serial like this....fab wrote:yep.... but don't you find theses markings strange ???
Re: German WW2 markings on the MG42
Just to throw another monkey in the wrench, here's a pic showing my rear section from a late Gustloff.
And yes, it has a Yugo buffer and stock in it in the pictures. I have since gotten a WWII bakelite stock and buffer for it, and it has a German top cover, but the rest of the gun is from a Yugo kit. I personally prefer the term "hybrid" instead of "fake". "Fake" implies that it is being passed off as something it is not, and that is not the case. Also, "fake" implies that it is not a real weapon, and once completed, anyone who is convienced that it is "fake" is welcome to stand 100 feet in front of it and let me pull the trigger. After all, if it isn't a "real" gun, why wouldn't they?

Re: German WW2 markings on the MG42
This 1942 dated MG42 is the only one i kept, because it is the earliest I found
i have still to find MG34 legs, first model barrel and bushing and after I began a 34.

Re: German WW2 markings on the MG42
you can see the bakelite stock here:
http://mg42.us/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=6465 ... ite#p49561
no WaA on it but the early German bakelite ww2 code is inside.
that's why i think this stock must be a very early one from March 1942 (like my 42)

Re: German WW2 markings on the MG42
Can you show us close up pictures of the early bipod locking stud? Would love to see how it is attached to receiver. Thanks .

A good topic to be brought up again.
