Crossdressing is a humourous term used to describe the occasional switching uniform to one other than you normally use. Many Germans go GI or Russian every so often to keep things interesting.

once agian, do I need to point out that I am "not" the one here that has and plays dress up with life sized dolls in his living room? That person here has the initials "DA"

Thats not a doll-he says it is an 'action figure'-whatever that means.Still doesn't explain the sheep! :? Farmer re-enactment? I once joined a French re-enactment unit, had to quit.I couldn't run fast enough, and kept tripping over the cast-off equipment! :? ---bil

DA,

is this your idea of "crossdressing"? Is that a skirt? Are you playing a little princess?

That is a pretty big weapon for a little princess. Thank God for that little leather thingy.
Where is your tiara?

This is a little -known unit of the Volksturm, the 127th pansy Brigade. They were called up in the last days of the war.Oddly enough, they were all volunteers that proveded their own uniforms! Not much is known about their combat record,as the historian assigned to write couldn't stop laughing. When I was working in San Francisco earlier this year I saw a parade of their veterans.Very nice! ---bil

Bil,

there must not be very many veterans left of this 127th pansy brigade due to the highly visable bright red camoflaged uniforms. Rumor has it they also carried a rainbow flag into battle too.

It is nice to see they are remembered by such people a our own DA,who dug through his closet to find this uniform. The camoflage uniform is rare,it was covered with a flower pattern, and most of the original ones were eaten after the war by starved, confused cows.I still see small remembrance stickers for these brave 'lads' the rainbow on the car bumpers.Keep up the good work,DA.We are proud of you and your dress. ---bil

I reenact as well. I do both GI and German, mainly GI though. When I finish my first semi 42 I'll bring it out instead of the mauser to reenactments.... :D

Lookin' good, FN.

I wish everybody would pay as much attention to their kit as you.

(Looks like you have the same habit as I -- unbuttoned pockets! I get gigged a lot for that. Below is a picture of me at Grenada -- with tunic button open! )

Welcome aboard, by the way! :welcome:

ok so whats up with the unbuttoned jacket? my old unit was made up of alot of old army vets so they were pretty stuck on regs so we nev er ran around out of uniform but they had some great ways to make us stealthy at tacticals.

Hi Jason,

No excuse. As a vet, I should be more consciencious. In fact, until I saw the picture of myself, I didn't even know that I'd left it unbuttoned. Worst of all, nobody brought it to my attention that day -- not even the gung-ho younger pups!

What the heck, guys. German soldiers OFTEN left the collor unbuttoned in the field. Look at unposed battlefield photos. The uniform was DESIGNED to allow the top button to be left unbuttoned.

You are right, of course, DA.

While on the subject of reenactment photos, I accidently ran across a very cool UK reenactors site with tons of great photos and text:

http://www.panzergrenadier.net/forum/index.php

This is a professional UK photographer associated with this site:

http://www.stuartgouldphotography.co.uk ... php?cat=11

There's a lot of great eye-candy on these sites. Brit reenactors who have unfettered access to THE places, weapons, and countries of the BIG EVENT manage to do it right.

I think you'll like this, DA.

Great sites GDM! Thanks. There are plenty of reenactor myths floating around out there that need to be debunked, such as "German uniforms must have pants and tunic colour matching", when steingrau pants frequently were used with feldgrau tunics, etc. It's difficult enough trying to put together a decently accurate kit without self professed experts making stuff up.

And what are some of the most strict "stitch-nazis" going to do now that some of the major US uniform suppliers are selling Chinese (Chinese!!!!!!!!!!!!!) uniforms -- and applauding the quality and accuracy?

I get a great kick from sitting around the camp -- especially the inspection areas -- and listening to the "experts" as they make up history on the spot. What fun. Is it really that hard to say simply, "I don't know"????????? Apparently it is.

But, then there are extremes in the other direction. I won't name this long-established reenacting unit from Texas, and I don't want to denigrate them -- they're really nice fellows, I have heard. But, still -- there must be SOME standards of authenticity
