Mg42 canvas sling

Post by schmisser »

I have read that canvass or Web material slings were faked for the mg42 or34.In Folke Myrvang
Book on mg42 /34 ) machine guns he clearly has pics of late war or canvas slings. The's slings can be found on pg 435. I have recently purchased a Web sling identical to the mg42 one pictured
In Myrvang's book. My sling has a black painted buckle with waffen proof -I will post pics soon :D

IIRC Bergflak says they are post war.

You yourself used the word faked so the question is how to prove it’s original.

And how do we know the wartime buckle wasn’t reused for a web sling?

Folke did a lot of research before writing the book. Talk to him at Knob Creek and ask how he determined the originality of the cloth slings. I'm certain he has a reason for his opinion, and the story should be interesting.

I bought green canvas sling from Numrich. Definitely post war in my case, but real 'surplus'. It has really cheap attaching hardware and no padding. It was cheap if I recall (like $10). It's looks like maybe Spanish?? Perhaps for their 5.56 belt fed the CETME Ameli that is similar to the MG42/3? But they do work.

BTW for those looking for decent leather surplus sling BRP still has post war Yugo slings for the M53, for like $25 they have both a split sling and a wider single sling listed. I bought some of these too. I really like the split sling so I can carry like a handle- flat. They are decent leather to, nice and worn, but still in good shape.
