Picture of a MG42 & M53 side-by-side?
Does anyone have a pic of both models together, to show the differences between both? Or even just a pic of an M53? I can't seem to find any completed M53 pics at all, only demilled parts pictures.

Will these do for now? I will take some better pics on Monday. We have visitors for the weekend and I am not allowed to take my toys out . The M53 is the one with the green sling and the MG42 has the brown leather sling. The rusty one is a relic MG42. Sorry if this is slow to load up but I thought you would prefer the larger pics as you can zoom in better.

Beautiful, beautiful. Those are awesome pictures longhorn109, thank you!
They look exactly the same, how can you even tell the two apart if it weren't for the straps? And why's the other relic MG42 so rusted, do you plan on fixing it up later?

Thanks I am glad you like them. The main visual give away is the front AA sight mount. If you look at the pic of the front of the barrel shrouds you will see it is missing on the M53.
The relic I bought last November and I have done some cleaning up on it. Here's a pic of it now, it's pitted but you can cock it and dry fire it. I have more pics on the forum somewhere.

Is that the only difference, the AA sight mount? I'm thinking of getting a Yugo M53 one day, and want to make it impossible to distinguish from the MG42.

The markings are different on the guns but the missing front AA mount is the one that gives away as an M53.

the barrel door rivet on the yugo is a dead give away.
see viewtopic.php?f=9&t=6072 for pic of door rivet.
the German screw looks just like the one at the back of the topcover.
