MG-42sa, Blank firing....

Post by junglewalk »

Blank adapted mg-42sa, on KCR, yesterday.......Since i have started this project, with Gordie k's big time help, I managed to blank adapt it from the beginning;...I have used it in numerous battle re-enactments...The Blanks that I use are the 308 Austria blanks...They are too weak for the 98k, but amazingly sound off pretty well in the 42....The Austrian blanks are still around......Thanks Gordie k, and Dan-Angola Armory!!!

RR, I use a solid barrel nozzle with a 1/8in hole; ie, the part that goes over the barrel bearing....When the blank goes off, the barrel & bolt moves to the rear, cycling the action, because that 1/8in hole trapped enough gas to do the job......a by-action of the trapped gas is that when it is released, it bangs louder than from a 98k, so they sound much louder than one would expect.
I had these blank adaptors for sale down at the 'Jungle Walk' this week-end at Knob creek rg, for $30....... :)
(ask me anything RR, we need as many mg-42s as possible at re-enactments, to especially hold back those Russian hordes!) :D

junglewalk,

Were you using the shorter MG3 Blank-Adaptor (drilled to 1/8").....or did you use a blank-adapted booster-cup/"nozzle" that was drill for the 1/8" operating restriction (?).

I ask because the photo shows a standard MG42/M53 Flash-Hider on the front of your SA42.

Richard; It is a machined full sized "nozzel" (as Dan call's it), that is the same length as the real one, that goes over the barrel bearing, and under the flash hidder, with that 1/8th inch hole. It fits over the barrel bearing snuggly (lubed w/Pam), and has no other opennings other than the 1/8th hole. :)
When I convert the gun to shoot my powerful 8mm blanks, I have another adaptor made the same way, but have enlarged the hole, and increased the recoil spring tension, with a slightly longer recoil spring. :)
I look every where for a 2-piece blank barrel in the past, with no luck. So, reading carefully your "Blank Studies", and having adapted my TNW 34 and MP-43, with my son's metal skills (Tool & Die maker), came up with something that amazingly works well.
I;ll take a web cam photo tonight and place it here, but right now I gotta call Sen.Bunning's office, about an outrage!>>>>>Why are non-citizens ok'ed for buying pistols/rifles?..>>Worse, why are non-citizens approved for buying NFA weapons too!
Discovered this insanity at this past MG shoot at KCR!!!!

Finally; photo of the blank adaptor, which you can see covers the entire barrel bearing on the gun..... Pictured also is a second adaptor, showing the 1/8th inch hole; plus the flash-hider ready to be screwed on....This works with the Austrian blanks...I also tried GI 308 blanks, and it worked ok, but I would have to enlarge the 1/8th inch hole slightly, if I were to us the GI blanks all the time, they seem to have been stronger.
When i change over to 8mm, i use another blank adaptor, with a slightly larger hole, and slightly longer recoil spring, and i do make my own 8mm blanks. Just different variables.

You should produce these, I'll be in the market for one in about 6 months or so.
