Bullet hole in shroud

Post by MPLoyd »

I bought 2 of the Center fire Systems Yugo M-53 Parts kit and got this shroud with what I’d say is a bullet hole from behind and to the left. This kind of damage shouldn’t affect the function in a build should it?

My 2 kits came in 2 extremes one was like new and had very little grease the other had the flash hinder and booster rusted together, nasty thick grease, and a broken pitted bipod. CFS seems very receptive on the returns and replacing the bad parts. I just need to mail them out.

I've finally started cleaning the first kit I bought from CFS. They readily agreed to replace the mutilated buttstock, so it's been returned. I should have inspected the whole kit before requesting a return, however, because after cleaning the barrel yesterday I found that it's so heavily rusted inside that it almost destroyed a bore brush. :( I don't know their policy on rusted out barrels. If it's not replaceable I'll bore it out to the max bore and use it in a gas gun for a louder bark.

I ordered a second kit over a week ago and it hasn't arrived yet. I'll check this one as soon as it arrives. Surely one of the two kits will be a good one.

The folks at CFS have been overly helpful and friendly to me, so far. Dealing with the public can be an aggravating and exasperating experience, so it's good to run across good people. Good attitude keeps customers coming back. :D

Well it’s depressing, I just punched both the barrels and they are pitted and rusted up pretty bad. Thanks guys I didn’t even think to check them till you brought it up. I guess I'll really find out how good CFS is....

Spoke to CenterfireSystems yesterday about the rusted out barrel, and once again they readily issued a return authorization for an exchange. So far, all my experiences with them have been positive -- they've been more than willing to go above and beyond their stated return policy. :D

My second M53 kit is on backorder, as are all those that they are currently taking orders for.

Some of these kits have TERRIBLE barrels.

I bought 2 kits from SOG recently. One barrel was fine, the other would make a good tent stake. It was a rusty mess.

SOG had me return the barrel. I have 10 MG42 barrels and the replacement they sent me is the BEST I own! They even paid the return postage.

I would bet SOG, CFS and the others with these kits never even look in the box, or only glance in there. Good to know they will replace any bad parts.

You're right. It would be impossible for them to check every box, even if they just checked the barrels alone. I don't get upset at all if I get a defective piece. In fact, if CFS hadn't advertized the barrels as being "excellent" I would have never requested an exchange.

I think these are good folks. I'm just glad there are people willing to put up with the incredible headaches that go with stocking and selling ANYTHING that is 60 years old. There's simply too many things that can go wrong.

I talked with the folks at SOG and for my old order back from the beginning of October they gave me a return authorization number. I didn’t solicit the information but the girl told me outright that they do not check the barrels.
