And who are these guys? I thought German WWII of course, but then I noticed no eagles, no helmet markings, and the collar patches don't look quite right. I can't see sleeve eagles either, or any SS insignia. Could these guys be Russian Army of Liberation / POA?

What the heck is wrapped around the receiver? Not sure I've ever seen that?

Looks like they're training for some AA action! 8)

There appears to be a basket sight attached to the wrap around the jcaket. It can just be seen in front of the soldier's face. What is wrapped around the receiver?
Can't tell who the sodlers are......

You can see its an upgraded MG08/15 with the waterjacket drain...etc. I think only the Germans did those upgrades. You may not be able to see the helmet detail because of the sun. I think the 08/15 upgrades were done in 1936 so maybe that was to early for the standard Nazi uniform? Or maybe a reserve unit that did not have all the markings yet? I know my 1937 mauser does not have Nazi markings. I don't see any none German gear so I would not think its a German unit. I would think pre WWII maybe 1936 or 1937.

Looks like part of the steam hose around the receiver...?

I just don't know enough about German uniforms to help. I think its more likely to be pre WWII then later... who would want a picture with totally outdated MGs during or after the War? If it was 36 or 37, that upgrade 08/15 would still be a front line firearm... anyway thats my 2 cents.
