Repro German 08 gunners dragging straps?

Post by dwmmg08 »

Hi all,

Has anyone seen replicas anywhere of the German WWI 08 gunner dragging straps??

Our re-enactment gun crew has been interested in some for a while, but we can't find any.

I heard from a guy in Russia that he was going to try and have them done... but otherwise no. I don't think anyone has a good set to get copied...

Cool, love to see one anywhere. I haven't even seen many originals to get, given how common they apparently where during the war. Not sure what the story is on that, maybe they were turned in with the guns when the guys marched back???

I'm sure it was not like the belts, I had an older German guy tell me that the army belt with the buckle was the one used by his dad and all the other dads he knew for the spank the kids routine, as it was the big belt. He said he didn't remember that ever being actually used for that much, though. Seems like it was more the threat (I'll use my army belt and stamp Gott Mit Uns into your...) then the use of it that got his (and all his friends) attention back in the day!

He said that was the one part of the uniform every parent he knew as a kid seemed to have kept.

Yup, thats the Russian I was talking about. It looks like he has a sample done at least. No price but I am trying to get one from him now. Before anyone orders one (from the US), email me.

Fantastic, will do. Did you notice that he also has reproduction tool kits (at least the leather box part) for the MG08/15 and for the Schwarzlose?

I would certainly be interedted in a set or two of these dragging straps, if you think there is a way to procure them safely.

Well hello Oprod :)

I have not been able to get in touch with him. I guess I would say I suggest payment on delivery...

I will try again soon as I have dealt with him in the past and sometimes he just does not answer for some reason.

OK got a reply after I sent a follow up email today!

Ready.... $270 each! Plus shipping.

So if you want one (and you are in the USA) let me know. Also if you want any of the other repro stuff he sells... I can probably get that at the same time!

LET ME KNOW ASAP! phiteshe@vt.edu

Hi Matt!

I got the same reply, today, from a Nadya! No word on if there's a break if we order more than 1.... but I think we ought to order a stack of them together, that way theres more chance of us all getting them, right???

I want one for sure. I've put out word for anyone in our WWI Group who may want one, I think we'll need 4 total, but I can't front the $ for all of them right now- they'll have to get me the $, then order.

You've ordered from him before, right?

I think I'd like to get one of his repro 08/15 tool kits as well, did you see those? Gotta go with brown, I think?

What's the little pocket in the lid of the tool kit for I wonder?

Glen,

Yes we have made many deals before. Here is what I am thinking. He owes me like $300 for a part that never came. I will have you gather all the money and mail me a USPS MO, which I will not cash until the items get here. I think he will be willing to ship me the items and have me pay once I get them. I may get one of the pouches or two as well. He is also telling me that he may have top straps and oil caps repros in the future.

Check TDPB for what goes in the kit... I really have no idea without looking.

Glen and Oprod,

Well they have 4 sets of drag straps that we can order. I no long need one so I think that means Glen can get 3 or the 5 he wanted. I think we should go ahead and make the order. I need a 08/15 pouch and Oprod wanted a 08 Pouch (Light Leather).

Let me know if you guys are ready to order.
