MG08 Booster

Post by kirby155 »

I recently bought a MG08 kit from a friend and its missing the booster/flash cone assm, lock and side plate. Anyone here know where I could find a booster assm. or lock. Hoping maybe to find them at Knob Creek this spring. Would love to find a reg. side plate and put it back into action but this will prob end up being a display gun. Thanks, Shane.

Sorry I don't have one at this time. I do have a Maxim parts list. If you would like to be on it email me at phiteshe@vt.edu

Good luck!

Try Bob Naess at Black River Militaria, he may know of one. The original booster/ flash hider assy's are pricey, the last minty one I had, with shield, sold on gunbroker in '06 for $425.00. Not sure on lock pricing at this time, I've seen/heard some high prices those too, but none to quote.

Thanks for the help, I know this isn't going to be a cheap restore or rebuild even if it only ends up be a dispaly gun but it's way to cool to let go of. If anyone has a drawing of the booster I have a machine shop I deal with alot that could prob make one for me, the hard part will be coming up with a mount for the gun I know they go for an arm and a leg. thanks again Shane.

Image of WWI maxim booster on the skeleton MG08. Good view of inner shield too. As an aside I am still trying to identify a mG08 feedblock 'alteration' if anybody interested?

Feedblock images to follow. Skeletonised gun (MG08 & 08/15) from Belgian Army stock so obviously WWI German MG 'pick-ups'. I have been cleaning these for a long time but more images to follow. WWI BFA has detail too Glenn so will photo that. Now that I have removed all the rust/grime/oil I am tempted to do the 'red paint' on the Drill Purpose guns but not sure if that is just a British method? Any ideas on what the Imperial German Army might have done on instructional wpns?

Good to see the Forum heating up again. Seemed to go very quietly recently, anyway here are the images of the differing feedblocks.

Mark,

Obviously the top picture is of the post WWI mods made to the Maxims to allow them to use MG34 style belts. No guess work left there.

The bottom one pretty much has got to be a blank fire converted Feedblock. What other round is small enough to fit past that larger front guide? Plus its painted red like the BFA you were talking about. Probably done for some type of training. I don't think you are ever going to find 100% historically proven answer here.
