I was sold one like that by IMA that came in their Turk parts lot, it fits a maxim barrel perfectly, they said German, but I dunno. Could be real, though. Don't see any proofs Fits WWI maxim barrel perfectly.

The barrel you've got pictured isn't a vickers barrel....it has the brass stop shim on the trunnion end...Thats a maxim barrel.
I've seen a couple of those wooden barrel carriers with SA markings on them but the Finn barrels would have had 1" diameter muzzles I't think....other than the few 08's or 08/15's they might have had for the reserves. No answer from here but maybe a couple more questions.

We can certainly eliminate British barrel carrier Matt. I guess the quesion is are there any other markings under the paint. The 2 patterns of German barrel carriers I have seen did have markings, admittedly they were both metal versons.
My question is can anyone really really confirm that the Imperial German Army ever used an issued wooden barrel carrier at all? If we can at least determine that fact, and identify visually an example then this would help us all.

Forgive me for being a nerd on this subject but I am still keen to identify 'proper' German barrel carriers. There are so many on the market at the moment and all of cse are being classed as German. Leather covered, wooden and metal are abundant but can any expert confirm which is which pse? They are not that cheap especially from German dealers as German prices command big spenders but I do not want to purchase the wrong pattern.
Of cse images would be most helpful - VMT.

Mark,
I got one from IMA. Its not German Made... Turk I think. The Quality is not even close... no markings...
If you don't see German markings on it, assume its not German! Thats the only way to do it!

There are metal rectangular double barrel carriers as well, identical in construciton to the single carrier on pictured above.
