MG08 anti-aircraft sight bought by some lucky buyer here?

A very interesting (and really extremely rare) anti-aircraft sight for an 08 just sold for a pretty healthy price...

I've never seen one of these in person, but the devil's paintbrush has some pictures of one minus the sight, just the clamp ring. I think one or more of the members here may have one? I am not at all sure this auction can be taken as any indication of the value of this particular item, there was quite a bidding war between two buyers at the end, so they may have run this up more than it is worth, or not. I haven't seen any of these for sale to know!

Pretty neat and quite rare piece, though. Neat! I just wanted to put this up so that everyone could see the sight, these are not common at all, and very interesting to see. I just couldn't get there. At least I've seen it, though!

Chaps - i did not even see this advertised!! otherwise there would have been an English bidder.

If any of us see pieces up for sale - is this a good forum to tip people off? Had I seen this I would have bid and told people at the same time!!!!!!!!

i already have the AA sight for a MG 08/15, it's a very hard accessorie to find.





I never see a MG 08 AA sight before for selling! and i never found one for my collection!! Now it's repaired i am just waiting for it. The price is Ok for me, it's the price of a german helmet M 16; and i have seen 2000 helmets but never a AA sight...;so it's happyness!

i received my AA sight, i put pictures of the MG 08 and MG 08/15 sight; you could see the differences!

After i'll tried to make pictures of a MG 08 with the AA sight, mounted on a AA trench mount......but it's more difficult because i need to cut a tree in my garden and i don't think my wife will be OK

Those are great pictures David! Interesting that the one is clearly imperial proofed. Is the other one? I'd be very interested to know if these are, in fact, WWI era accessories, and not interwar, as I think the Devils Paintbrush theorized!

The second one is also imperial proofed! It's not interwar model, it's a real WWI AA sight.

I found 3 differents models for the MG 08, and mine is certainly the last model made; i have originals post cards with my model on it, but no dates ; i think it became maybe in 1917.




On the AA sight, it's write "distance from the sight point to the ring sight is 115 mm"; it's for that this model is not put in front of the MG 08.
