All 3 of these are R/C.

Top is S42 1936, all markings intact to include the stock. The only issue is the bayonet lug is bent and I haven't gotten around to fixing it. Hence no cleaning rod.

Middle is a BNZ 1942, peened markings.

Bottom is a 1941 BYF, all markings intact.

OK, here are my "all matching" RC's

On the left is a dou45. I think it's cool because it has all of it's numbers, and no EP anywhere including the bolt. Also has an early "L" stock.

In the middle repreasents my first K98 purchase. S/27 1938 with a solid stock.

Last is a BCD43. The stock was stripped when I got it.

here is one i picked up at local gun shop for $160.
not sure of its value but it shoots good.
barrel and receiver are only things numbers matching.
it has plenty of birds stamped all over it.

Berlin-Lubecker- "237" 1940, and also "duv" 40 date.

That front band is interesting; I had not seen one like that on any k98's in the flesh yet.

The front band is common '43 mid war un-finished band before they went to the stamped/welded.

If that has a good bore, you stold that thing. I've never seen a non-RC '40 duv.

it has a good bore. the lady at the gun shop where i bought it said the gun came with a bayonet when the guy traded it in. she was selling it seperatly. should i have bought it too?
what is a bayonet worth?

non-RC? does that mean non reconditioned? not much finish left on the metal just rust.

would it hurt the value of the gun if i removed some of the rust?

The bayo wasn't matching to the gun, but if it had a matching scabbard to it's self and the blade was un-sharpened, could be worth up to $200. I have picked up several nasty bayo's for around $25, so it's all in the condition and if the scabbard number matches.

What rust do you want to remove? I wouldn't do anything other than oil it down. Don't scrub or polish anything!!!

That brown stuf is called patina, I would leave it alone.

Let me know if you want a correct band for it. Everything else looks good.

IMO, it really looks like an import. Look on the barrel, up by the front sight for any type of import mark. It will say"something somthing 8mm germany"

That pinned site hood is post war I think.

RC= russian capture.

i think ill just leave the finish alone.

Yep, an old import but still very cool date and code IMO. The stock could be matching. Is there a number on the bottom side of the wood behind the wrist of the stock?

The band is called an "H" band. Look at the top two 98's in M1's pic. Those are H bands.
I can trade you for your band if you want.

here is where the stock numbers are:

i dont see any numbers or stamps on the outside of the stock.

when i get time ill take it apart and see if there are any numbers on inside.

i have 3 i will post when i get home and find a camera. 2 of them are still at gun shop waiting from me to pick up. i have a S/27 1937, (coming in soon havnt seen myself yet) are a s/42G and a AX 1941
