Mauer Banner K98k

Post by travis17ss »

I saw a K98k with the Mauser banner stamp on it, with Waffenamt stamps. I thought the Mauser banner marked rifles were for non military use. I was told by a friend that they were not used by the Wehrmacht. I am curious to who may have used this weapon. I did have a chance to purchase it, regrettably I did not.

There were two "Standard- Modell" s with the 'Mauser Banner....These came out in limited numbers during 32-33 while the Army was deciding what rifle they would adopt. (there were Mauser banner rifles made for export in the early 30s with a multitude of features other than the two 'Standarde Modell"s above)
..........The first "Standard-Modell" that Oberndorf presented to the Army had the short barrel of the 98A; a straight bolt handle, finger notches for the support hand just below the rear sight, no bolt dis-assembly disc in the lower stock, and sling loops under the stock.
..........The Army was interested, but wanted a few more features on a new standard rifle;...>
..........The second "Standard-Modell" that Obenforf presented, is what we all know as the 98k;..Having a bent bolt, bolt notch cut in the wood, bolt disassembly disc on the stock as in the Gew-98 of WWI, and the sling mounted to the right side.
..........This "Standard-Modell II" was accepted by the Germany army. If your lucky in finding both models in good condition, they have a deep beautiful blu, with the Nitro/crown firing proofs on the left side of the receiver. (1939 changed firing proofs to the eagle we all know)
.....These rifles are so finely finished, and are so rare compared to the 98k.
Beautiful women are like well built machineguns: Some should just be looked at, and left alone, while others were built to get hot.
