Japanese Broomhandle?

I have had this in my collection for almost ten years now, and haven't seen any like it. While the pistol itself is a standard commercial c96,the stock/holster is oddly enough made entirely of leather. I know typically these were wooden with leather straps attached, but this one is strengthen via leather "lamination"(stacking) and an elongated metal pistol attachment with two screws. Also, oddly enough the pistol's lanyard loop was ground off, perhaps to accommodate a tight fit in the flawed design of the holster. I find it quite odd that the holster be designed in this way, because while it is fairly stiff, it is no where near as structurally sound as the wooden ones.

Thanks! I just haven't ever seen another. I just got the impression that it was Japanese made stock because it has some strikingly similar characteristics to those of the type 94 and type 14.

I would be more inclined to think it was done by the chinese. They bought huge quantities of the M96's and made a lot of accessories both at the really marginal and the excellent ends of the spectrum. Are there any markings at all on the gun or the holster? Pics would help a lot....

There aren't any markings that would indicate it as being Asian on either the holster or the gun. No markings on the holster at all. I will see if I can get some better photos soon. It is all matching, even though the finish is all gone. I was just hoping someone had seen another like it. It very well could have come from China. It also is fairly crude in that the metal work does not appear to have come off any production line, but more of a small "made to order" look. I'll try to get better pictures of the catch as well.

Here is the latch. It is very crude, but also would take some substantial effort to manufacture.
